Well, I was scheduled to go two weeks later than that. The spot opened up on my best friends date to leave. I took it. We ended up in the same platoon at boot camp. Made things a tad easier. (Though boot camp itself is mostly mental, even if it is the Marine Corps)

Same here, I would play some Megaman or Castlevania on the NES, get bored, flip to SNES, play some Castlevania there, or some Super Mario World, Gradius III...

I broke my ankle 2 weeks before I was to leave for Marine Boot Camp. Then while I was still on crutches 9/11 happened. Kinda like my blessing imo. Sure I would have liked to be in the military to have the ability to say that I was. But had I been shipped out after 9/11 I woulda been the guy crying rivers of tears and sobbing about wanting my daddy.

My brother joined in the spring of 2001. Got through bootcamp and MOS school, went to his first Duty Station and was there for a few months and then BOOM 9/11. Thank God he was Bulk Fuel and not infantry...
I damn near went out of my mind worrying every *** day he was over there anyways, though...
I'd always planned on joining the military, but 9/11 just furthered my resolve. (I graduated HS / went to bootcamp May '05)

9/11? I had just gotten done work, I was working overnights at Target at the time...me and my girlfriend at the time were making the preperations for her to move to go to school in Portland (PSU), so we we're picking up the moving truck, getting cash for the trip, etc. While in the bank everyone is staring at the TV half paying attention to us, we we're like "WTF is going on?" and they filled us in. It was surreal...
I flew back home to Madison the first day they allowed flights after they had stopped them..my ticket home just happened to be for that day...
