Oh, it sounds like you don't get how the city taxes work. It's like the government of sorts. The seller got the 3million gil he asked for, but the seller NEVER gets the tax. That money, just like a retail store, is not kept by the seller. The country gets it. In FFXI though, the money is deleted from the economy with the sale.

with cloth 93 there is more than enough syths out there to not worry about gil.

crawler cocoon>silk thread>silk cloth
spider web>rainbow thread> rainbow cloth
gigas socks>wool thread>wool cloth
are just a few & so easy to farm the stuff too.
