SOPA(Stop online Piracy Act)
Lakshmi.Kolvar said: » Still, this will lead to a lot of protest, but only protest that would matter is a complete protest of all music and hollywood. Cancelling your cable, not buying, going to, or renting any movie. Stop downloading music, buying music or even going to concerts. Beyond cutting deep into the industry that is pushing this bill forward, it won't matter once it is passed. Any protest on the internet against it will just be shut down. I was thinking this would be the only thing that would work as well. After movie studios spending 10s of millions making a movie only to have it boycotted and losing money on them would they think of backing off. Same with the music industry. They are spending millions right now to promote SOPA/PIPA because they think it will pay off in the end. But if they think it'll be too costly because of boycotts, they will back off. It's just a money game really. Question about this. If this law only affects USA, will it have any kind of impact for us from the rest of the world?
I think some sites will be just taken down or something like that, so I can understand it does affect my surfing. What if instead an american goes on a foreign site that is however not acceptable to this thing standards? Back in the 70's and early 80's we took blank tapes, and recorded music from the radio...
and now they've gone up to this point???? The music companies and the businesses they back up for their SOPA w.e BS... It's not gonna work... Just leave things the way they are, and go about more important business. Phoenix.Sehachan said: » Question about this. For those want to still use Wikipedia, if you have wikipedia.org scripts blocked, the site will still work as always. Still a nice move. When facebook/twitter gonna do it? What if instead an american goes on a foreign site that is however not acceptable to this thing standards? A lot actually. They will completely block any incoming DNS they feel violates the SOPA/PIPA, no matter the country of origin. Another issue is that the US to a point, has a corner on the internet. So any laws they make regarding it, have a ripple affect that will be passed down to others. Imagine sites like Yahoo! news getting edited. That is a site used globally. Google would have to to start censoring search results around the world. It is quite mind boggling what all can be done under this law. Yeah but back then the definition of piracy leaned more towards profiting from misappropriated content. To simply misappropriate would be theft and not piracy. So they changed the conditions of the crime to better tailor punishment towards it. I personally see no difference between downloading something and watching/hearing/playing it at a friend's house. This whole scenario is ridiculous. If you improved availability and lowered costs of buying content then you would make more sales. Previous comments about this being purely about money are 100% accurate. The seller wants you to buy their crap but never have ownership of it. Who'd have thought a system like that would fail /galeforcesigh Bismarck.Patrik said: » i have no idea on how much Italy is influenced by US political bills FB.HuskyStarcraft said: "Why is it that when Republicans and Democrats need to solve the budget and the deficit, there's deadlock, but when Hollywood lobbyists pay them $94 million dollars to write legislation, people from both sides of the aisle line up to co-sponsor it?" Reddit Founder Alexis Ohanian being badass as usual. I honestly think even ffxiah.com might go down if Sopa passes >_> I'm impressed on how many sites are participating.
Even memebase and craigslist are in. Phoenix.Sehachan said: » Question about this. If this law only affects USA, will it have any kind of impact for us from the rest of the world? Foreign sites will be blocked through DNS filtering, US citizens will be criminally prosecuted. This cannot happen.. I will be force to go back to regular TV... My Naruto time is precious to me!!!!

Quote: WASHINGTON —The following is a statement by Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) on the so-called “Blackout Day” protesting anti-piracy legislation: This ******. ![]() “Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging. It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests. A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals. It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy.” ![]() ^Me right now. that guy won't get reelected, we hope.
The politician's are getting mad so our system of government is finally doing what it's supposed to do - putting pressure on leaders, making them aware we're watching and that we aren't going to take the *** the MPAA wants to make law.

Not one of them answered. Lammars' DC number has been disconnected. Their websites are timing out as well. I'd say that's promising, but my cynicism tells me otherwise.

When they cut off the internet during the Egyptian riots it only caused more people to take to the streets, something the US government should heed well. How Was Egypt's Internet Shut Off |
