It took me 3 days to get Woodworking and Alchemy to 60 (6 days total) and neither was exactly expensive. Woodworking took about 200k and Alchemy was before the economy crumbled so it was a bit higher.

Either way, they both essentially depend on hq'ing somewhat cheap synths. It used to be beeswax with alchemy but now that's turned to ***so I switched to Woodworking and hq'ing arrows, bolts, and shihei. Eventually you can npc kabura arrows for about 200k/stack profit (90+ Woodworking with 53 Bonecraft though). It took around 2 days and not much money to get Leathercraft to 35 for ram leather but that's starting to tank too.

FYI: If you are in needs of space you can always get one mule with a locker, satchel, storage, and gobbie bags.

DYK: It would take about 900k gil to buy enough bronze coins to extends you mog locker to the end of the millennium?

What would you suggest I level with cooking? I know some items require sub crafts to make. Is there one in particular, or in the process of leveling cooking, kinda of dabble into the others as well, say for instance if the cooking market is slow, or I cant obtain the items I need easily?

Definitely fishing, it requires patience, but being able to fish up your own fish rather then buying off of AH will save you money, for sure.

Well, very few items in cooking require subcrafts. The only skill I'd "suggest" is Fishing. That will augment your Cooking profit nicely.

As far as the other crafts are concerned. I'd level them on a separate character entirely to take them to 100. Cooking/Fishing 100 with all subs at 60 is pretty pointless.

Alchemy is the only one i'd do so you could HQ the ***out of Sairui-ran if needed ^^

Well... My group has 90+ ww, bone, alch, cook and 80+ cloth/leather. It's pretty beneficial if you have a character or account with each of the crafts at main with all of their appropriate subs. Speaking of... We need to get our Smithing char up higher. @.@

cooking can make you loads of gil, you just have to babysit the ah so you can move w/e you are crafting. hell i payed for all my heca cursed items with cooking. made like 500k over a weekend selling meat mithkabobs (they was 5k stack all day back then). like #2 said you have to sell in volume, no single item in cooking is gonna make you rich but selling an assload of that one item can line your pockets quite well. all cooking takes is a little gardening/farming/fishing and a few mules to move product.

As long as you farm up crap and not jyst buy it off the ah you can make money in most crafts.

If you get everything for "free" and sell it, you can make money. How amazing.

Cooking is stupid cheap, as long as you get to know your regional vendors well.

You don't even need subcrafts really, although there are at least 2 recipes requiring subcrafts (Snoll Gelato needs level 11 Alchemy and Rice Dumplings need level 15 woodworking).

A few tips:

1) Don't even think about sushi unless you are making it for yourself or catching the fish yourself. I don't know about all servers, but on Siren the fish are difficult to find unless you are making sole or squid only, and it is break even at best for sole and squid sushi when you buy the fish from the AH.

2) Take the time to level your woodworking and alchemy a bit. You will save a ton of money if you don't have to buy maple sugar, honey, or gelatin.

3) Either play on PC with windower running or have a two-box setup. You should camp the AH as much as possible. Not only can you make a profit while skilling up cooking, but you often have a choice of recipes to turn a profit in. If you happen to catch the AH when there are few or none of a given synth being sold, you can make a lot of money in a hurry and get skillups as well. This doesn't change when cooking for pure profit. You might just need to farm an ingredient (Agaricus comes to mind).

A few bad things about cooking:

1) Guild Points are terrible. You can end up spending more time and effort synthing 50 times for 1.3k points than you do skilling up 2 levels in the 80s. Meanwhile, your clothcrafter buddy just bough a couple of capes off the AH for less than what it costs to synth them for his GP item.

2) Expect to skip over any recipe requiring fish if you do not skill fishing.

3) Mushrooms can be as hard to find as any fish NOT named "Black Sole" or "Moat Carp", yet some of the best pure profit recipes require hard to obtain mushrooms.

4) If you don't have a mule in every city, you will either do a lot of traveling or you will pay too much gil at the AH. Or else, you won't find it at all.

5) You need a lot of patience when dealing with the AH. Your profit is in quantity, not quality. Some of the idiots who level cooking don't understand that, and will undercut a given item to nothing just to sell theirs first. Wait these people out...the price almost always goes back to what it was in cooking. A recent example from Siren: Marron Glaces went from 3k to 1.1k in less than two days...they are back to 2.7-3k now.

I hope this helps!

For funsies I level cloth after a friend told me all about crafting. few months later Im like 90+ haha it gets addictive. I wouldn't say you would make millions like back in the old days. but if you farm your own materials you can make some nice profits on low synths.

For crafting advice, i did Cooking to 100 with the idea of getting Fishing to 100 as well.

If you fish up your own ingredients for sushi you will never be broke in this game ever.

At 100, Goldsmithing > everything else by sooooooo much

Getting there though is another story :s

You, my friend, are freaking crazy.

No, I'm not 100+3... I'm 98+3... but either way, I cant seem to make money at all as a Goldsmither. I've leveled subcrafts, can do most every synth...

Just looking through the list of synths available for Goldsmithers... and there's maybe two synths that actually make good profit on NQ results... being elemental beads and the Manteel.

Though even on beads... I've noticed my break rate to be high enough to where they're actually a loss to synth... on average seeing 1 bead break in 10 is just simply not worth the cost or effort.

Simply put... making money in Goldsmithing (as far as I can tell, anyway, and I've been doing it a long time) is all how lucky you get with HQs. Anything you HQ is in high demand and exorbitantly pricey, so if you're lucky enough to get a higher tier HQ every once in a while, you'll be good.

Me on the other hand... I dont HQ ***.

I sadly almost never use my 75 DNC... the endgame scene is sadly non-existent. I did unlock the new merit tiers when they announced it though. Only 2 more pieces of AFv2 to go as well.

The job has such potential but falls very short in so many aspects.

On a good note i love DNC in campaign battle and FoV.

Well to backtrack myself... DNC COULD have uses in endgame... but when i have WHM/SCH... i'm obviously screwed and being told to come WHM over DNC lol.

But yeah if you want to enjoy the game on your own with VERY good soloing skills. Level DNC.
