Which is why i think pets should get a medicated status...

Erm... no. If they can make them, or have the money to buy them they should be allowed to use as many as they want.

i dont think so.... i mean i can make icarus wings... yet i cant use more than 1.... most elixers a rare. so u can only hold 1 of each.. reraisers are rare so you can only hold 1...

just saying they have pet food... they dont need infinite healing through meds.

It's not infinite.

They can't get spells cast on them, nor have a WHM with infinite (well as much so as Dawn Mulsum) to keep curing them. They also have a silly recast timer for Call Beast and Reward, so they do need Dawn Mulsum.

Would you be cool with a WHM only being able to cure you every minute, I think not.

Honestly, I think they have it all wrong. If I could choose my battlefield, I would grab my friends and head to the BCNM in Den of rancor. I don;t think everyone is dumb enough to choose the "easiest" battlefield to get to.

This. If I could choose, I'd choose the one with lesser people. It's not like everyone would take the easy way out. >_<

My first Maat fight was Rdm, back before they nerfed the hell out of it. I remember being led to the Qulun Dome by Jaybar, on Bismark, at level 68, with a level 1 Mnk sub, and being told, "Here you go!! Beat the Ruby Quadav, solo as you are, and you can beat Maat!! If you get into trouble, just zone out behind ya!!" I went like 1/50 on the Ruby, lol, then went 1/4 on Maat. It was the most intense, yet memorable time in my ffxi play time. From what I can see, these are definately times we'll never see again.

No, just no. ***is already so easy its sad.. Got a shout group tog last night and did some Ix'Aerns and Jailers. They got crazy having to wait an hour for ***. Abyssea has ruined what this game used to be along with other adjustments. No one can stand to wait for pops or 15 min re-spawns anymore. This game has gotten so low in standards now its sad.

I think a lot of people back then had troubles with RDM maat because most RDMs didnt have good nuking gear. I believe a good nuke set and chainspell was able to take it down pretty fast. As well as a good para set.

Well, the key back then with the rdm maat fight was that if you DIDN'T beat him in under, say 90 seconds, you pretty much lost anyways.

I have mixed feelings about this. I understand SE's desire to keep the fight somewhat easy...I mean I'm pretty sure we've all heard horror stories of people (mainly RDMs) taking forever to clear their Maat fight or outright quitting because they couldn't win. No one really wants that to happen again, right?

But as it was said earlier, it's level 99 and this is the final limit break quest we'll ever see. I really would like a challenging fight for this quest.

In all honestly, they had to adjust it. After the first rush of people going out and doing this as a group, other people that come back later, or choose to wait and do it, would have had a hard time getting people to come and help them.

95 WHM vs level 99 Maat!

Get maat to 20% after many close calls, ws it down to 5%

Almost there!!

....not moving

WHY AM I NOT MOVING

*looks at top right corner of the screen*

NO!
NO NO NO NO NO!!
80%
NOO!!!!!
60%
DAMN YOU
30%
/RAGE/RAGE/RAGE
...recovering

Everything rushes in the screen.

Maat was at 1% and you're dead on the ground.

server disconnects you because your router disconnected and you have to reestablish a new connection.

You come back and you're sitting dead outside the battlefield with no rr, everyone laughs at you because you took it on as a whm and now you cant do it anymore ; ;
Kalilla, I am disappoint.

The game still offers alot of challenges, ya just gotta look for them. Or, in some circumstances, create them.
Se's not putting them in front of us anymore. Anytime someone can start a character from scratch, have at least 1 95 with all of their subs unlocked and leveled and 1 full set of emp +1 AND still have 2 weeks remaining on their free trial, says alot.

Game is old and doesnt have the player base it once did. Sadly, if people want more of a challenge, perhaps its time to look for another game.

I saw a vid of a BST solo that fight a while ago, although idk why he deleted it or hide it later.

But that BC doesn't seem THAT hard, idk whats the reason to lower the difficulty.

The one the guy used like a million dawn mulsums?

He used about 120~130 Mulsums. A win is a win however, and it wasn't an "easy" win by any means, as it was a close call a few times when the NPC hit Hundred Fists. Enough Mulsum will get that win regardless, however.

SE would never do this. They would have to create a medicated status for pets. And we all know how lazy they are when it comes to pet mobs.

Challenge in FFXI is differentiated in two ways. #1 is time investment, and we all know how much *** that stuff is. #2 is going against popular consensus and achieving what was conceived before as impossible. #2 isn't currently viable because current content has not existed long enough for player consensus to stabilize; players are growing at a rapid pace, and things aren't as easily conceived as difficult because, come a few months, the cap will go up again and everything that was hard will be considerably easier because of higher skill ratings and new gear availability. If someone does something that they think is spectacular, instead of blowing minds, people just say "big whoop" or, "congrats on killing it without procs."

Back at 80 cap, I remember Turul wiping the floor with me. His Thundaga IV dealt more damage to me than my THF had HP. No matter how desperately I tried to get him away from my group (He aggro'd us at Khlamari), he destroyed me. I remember thinking he was ridiculously powerful (Probably more powerful than anything I'd ever fought before). Now, I can plow through him on my WAR in under a minute.

it's not the walk there that matters anyways
It used to be.

The level cap quests used to be milestone challenges along a road that was already an ordeal in itself. "It's the journey, not the destination", as they say. I can remember the exact amount of ancient papyruses (papyri?) that I saw before I finally won lot on mine. Before Dynamis Xarcabard finally got a map, I navigated it position relative to Boreal NMs. I actually knew who to give my KS to based on the hints and not because Wikipedia told me so.

I can't even remember what the level 90 cap quest was about.

Now that you can level to 99 in essentially a day, I'm not sure how fitting an epic battle to celebrate your passage from 95 to 96 would be, a passage you could easily miss just AFKing in an abyssea party for 10 minutes.

And Maat's fight, someone already brought it up, but the fight against Maat used to be a lot harder. What happened? Aside from the game generally becoming easier and easier with job adjustments, people complained about it being too hard, so, surprise, they made it easier.

We saw the same thing with CoP missions. What used to be a grueling course of missions that you could look back on with a sense of accomplishment is now nothing more than an unnecessary roadblock for someone to get a Rajas ring. If they just made it drop off Raja, no one would even bother with the missions. Seriously. Compare completion rates of CoP to WotG to see this in full effect. "eff the adventure, give me my shiney" is the new FFXI motto.

What happened? When did "fun" take the back burner to how many virtual ego boosts you can get? Is it casuals? People just simply aren't as skilled as they used to be? People don't like paying attention, doing research about their job, the fight, perhaps even reading in general...? I don't know. Somewhere along the line, "being there" became what players want and "getting there" has been reduced from its position as the main course to the easiest form of tedium SE can muster up.

Regardless of how easy or difficult they make this BC, it will just be viewed as a roadblock to the destination, 99, so why not take the path of least resistance to begin with? People who want a challenge have probably long since moved on from this game anyway.

All of this has always been there and has never changed. People were never players who played entirely for fun and who were extremely skilled.

If CoP's rewards were as "good" as WoTG's, nobody would've done it, accomplishment or no accomplishment. Ballista isn't done... why not?

All people have ever cared about is reward.

you should be able to fight maat at 99 after getting a rare/ex item (1 of like 3 that drop off of beastmen) and be able to fight him (uber maat) for a nice reward. that way ppl still get their hard bc. (i dont care if its even a key item that just adds 10% dmg to all dmg u do.. mmmm that actually sounds good.
