I've tried various vegetarian alternatives to things that normally require meat of sorts, and the results can be just as appeasing in both flavor and satiating hunger/appetite.
I wanted to make bagels with cream cheese and lox, but salmon is damned expensive. So I improvised and did the typical cream cheese, capers, tomato, onion getup, and added sliced cucumber and avacado in lieu of the salmon, and it was quite delicious and refreshing; also just as filling as it would have been with salmon.
