I spend an entire day's fishing allotment on sardines, ends up being close to 25 stacks of sardines. That ends up lasting me about a 6 days on haks. Rinse and repeat.
Now to camp the AH for earth crystals, or go to sky and farm clusters.
6 days on 25 stacks are you crazy?... are you only fishing 4 hours a day?
because in my experience it's 1 stack of sardine balls for every hour fishing haks.. so 25 stacks would only last 1 full day.
Do you guys experience similar bite rates compared to Minnows? I only started using Sardine Balls yesterday near ~50% moon so my bites were pretty weak in comparison. I'm hoping these are just as good as minnows, I hate camping them on my server.
Once I finish my Ebisu, what level can I reasonably start fishing Haks? Right away?
I hit 70 skill last night and I'm also close on GP.
Seems like bait is a real issue. Is it even possible to get 200 per day everyday? I'm doubting it, but curious in any case. If they sell for 10k, bringing in 2mil per day seems a bit to absurd to be true.

I wouldn't bother going after Haks until skilling up into the 90s. It is really quick to get there through Nashmau/Talacca Cove or Oldton, you'll be gaining 1-2 levels every 200 fish. In my opinion it'd be more profitable to spend 2 weeks skilling up on cheaper priced fish and then heading to Haks rather than going there low and barely skilling/catching.
Be prepared to be kinda let down once you actually get to Haks to be honest. My friends used to tell me it's game over when you get an Ebisu, you're building relics all day. It's actually only 80-100k an hour. Sure it's terrific money if you bot all day 24/7, but gil/hour wise there's a lot more profitable stuff to do if you're actually playing. 200 fish will literally take you all 24 hours.

Seems to be less then minnows for sure kind of eyeballing I would say maybe 10-20%~ less? Idk.

I would wait til at least 90+ and thats assuming you have stall, skill gear, puffin/noddy. Its very possible to catch 200 a day though probably minnow/sinking minnow only and you would need to be fishing most of if not the whole day with regular minnows less with sinking but I've never had enough to really figure that out.

Thanks, thats what I've been doing. I've basically done 10-70 in Nashmau already at about 1-2 skill a day. I'll continue till 90 and work on my puffin and noddy before trying.
100k/hour is still pretty nice for when I don't have events going no.
Spent the entire day fishing sardines, ended up with 395. Figure in some breaks and that is roughly 46 stacks of sardine balls.
As far as sardine balls vs minnows. Minnows will out perform sardine balls. Factor in the time commitment to obtain minnows and I would be willing to bet sardine balls come out ahead. Unless you are on a server with an ample NPC supply of minnows.
i tried legit fishing haks, is not really worth it in my oppinion.
They not that easy with seagull+puffin, so can lose some and almost always got the warning message (full skill except torque), didnt feel like wasting any ring charges on them. So I do Liks mostly now, they easy to wear w/o ring charges, sell well, Gugru nice option if have Albatross, not for me, mostly fish at work these days when i have a few mins here and there. Not making a fortune of course but adds up little by little, helps a bit when comes to plate/cinder.
I don't know if this thread is meant for this type of questions, but I dont like starting my own topics a lot. I decided to start fishing and go for lu shang's. i found a guide on the wiki for targeting skill up fishes along with carps. would it be best to follow that or target fish that skill well and i can sell then buy all my moat carps?
The first is a question on pelican ring and fishing skill. I went to Nashmau and rocketed from 35 to 47 on Istiridye using the Pelican Ring. I was anticipating a speedy 47 to 48 followed by cap break then polishing off my daily cap. I've used 4 charges of my ring now and have only recieved a 0.1 fishing skill, not the rapid 0.2 0.3 or double skills I've been seeing. Should I be in a different area now that I am 47 and come back after I am higher for the higher fish? (I've seen other people saying to stay here but the skills appear to have dried up on the fish I can manage to reel in).
The other questions are about Matsya, I have an Ebisu waiting for me to level into it and get the remaining Guild Points for. Is anything needed aside from the Ebisu, apron, the skill+ gear, the large fish+ ring and 110 fishing? Also what job/jobs can hold all the fishable mobs there long term. I hear how much of a nightmare it is to fish Cave Cherax without falling asleep at your desk and then to only see a 20% return on the bait for Matsya only to lose 90% or so to line snaps and items/monsters. I want to walk into this as prepared as possible to walk away as sane as possible.
Also I've noticed a HUGE difference in difficulty between stackable fish and the larger unstackable ones. Is this because I am so low or does it stay this way for the rest of fishing? (Read: Is Matsya going to be this impossible to reel in?) ;_;

Fishing takes a very long time to level, took me 3 + months to go from 0-110, most of your questions have already been answered in here if you look around a bit more.

Mooching.
Any job with phalanx can hold.
Awesome, I was afraid I'd have to skill SMN or gear BST. Thanks.

I leveled my main without a skillup ring and saw such a monumental difference the past two days on my alt with it that I thought maybe it was how the ring always worked :/ I should have known better >_<;
I have a lot of the bait on my main but only have WHM geared on my alt and wasn't sure if having my main's THF hold mobs for my alt would work. Getting my alt to the point I can fish Matsya though would probably be as much of a nightmare as just skilling SMN...

Most of those guides are severely outdated. In today's game, it's actually much faster to do other stuff to raise gil and actually buy the rod now. Fishing the moat carp yourself would take you at least 2 months with 1 account, while burning cru/dynamis/VW drops could get you the money for a Lu Shang's in a week.
In short, buy the rod, target the fastest skill up fish.

So, okay forgive me if this is a dumb question, but if you can just buy the fish needed for ebisu quest should i just skip lu shang? is fishing without it really bad?
The first is a question on pelican ring and fishing skill.
Just wanted to mention you can use two pelican rings at the same time...giving you twice as much chance for skill ups so you may want to try to win another one. You can also send the ring to a mule on your account which means you can have a mule try to win one as well and then d-box it to you.
Also I've noticed a HUGE difference in difficulty between stackable fish and the larger unstackable ones. Is this because I am so low or does it stay this way for the rest of fishing? (Read: Is Matsya going to be this impossible to reel in?) ;_;

Also my question about the difficulty of Matsya still stands, I didn't think it would be an issue til I went to get my alt an Ebisu and I found that I can't manage to reel in Gugs without the Albatross Ring, am I going to be have to use it for Matsya also?

I thought that only 1 of the same enchantment could be active on a character. This, at the very least is worth trying since I'm probably going to need a 2nd ring to pull Gric through to the 90's/100's (if I'm even that lucky)

from my experience Lu Shang made a difference, for me at least, to reel in was a bit easier, but the major for me at that point was, that i had no more line snaps. Back then i was using Halcyon and skilling up on Mercanbaligi and Athapot in Nashmau, and often enough the line snapped on Athapot and the Shrimp Lure was gone, and often enough none in stock. So i got fed up with this ***, started to work on the Lu Shang quest and stopped skilling for a while. With Lu Shang no more line snaps and no lost lures anymore.
You also don't get any "too small" lines or that ur rod breakes on a big fish till u come to the 100+ fishes.
But u don't need it necessarily, it just makes life a bit easier
There are fishing topics that come up now and then but mainly are asking a question for a single answer. I know there are many fishers that visit these forums so this is an attempt to get people involved and have a little fun discussing one and only one thing, fishing!
The emotions of fishing.
I know Blue Gartr has a Fishing topic already, but I would like to see this community get involved a little bit and talk, since not everyone visits BG. I would love to have a topic just for fishers including veteran fishers, casual fishers, and even players just starting out and want to ask a few questions without being embarrassed about starting a whole topic for a simple answer they could not find.
I only ask that you keep any bot talk to a minimum, preferably none.[Moderator edit: No bot talk] I want this to be a place where we can discuss anything from GP items of the day to what lure/bait to use or what area is best. A quick mention of how you're doing on the lu shang/ebisu quest, how you're doing getting your fishing items from Grounds of Valor, that item you're saving your GP up for, or how much you wish you could hurt Zaldon for not finding anything in your fish for the 10,000th time. Your lucky moment streaks and the moments when you have nothing come your way and question why you started fishing in the first place. Anything that comes to mind, think of it as the random thoughts thread for fishing.
I will list a few resources that I find to be useful when it comes to fishing:
BG Fishing Topic Great Blue (Amazing Site <3, is out dated since 2008 but an amazing resource regardless) Final Fishing (Another great resource with one of the most in-depth guides made. Out of date though.)
Fish Size Chart [GE][Wikia] Chenon Diary (The site seems to be down for good though, it was a site made for Fish Ranking)
I shall add more if people provide good resources.
