Has anyone ever gotten the fishing torque when it wasn't mystery boxes windurst? Because I've opened over a 1000 boxes now.

Did you switch servers Chib because right now it's Mystery boxes Sandy. And @Egonn it took me an entire week to get 1 torque.

Pretty sure dungeon areas do not get the mystery box help anyway.

Here is a question, and be creative.

If you were in charge of developing the Ebisu quest, without Zaldon, how would you do it? Make it a legitimate task...

Probably via magian moogle requiring lushang. Upgraded by maybe catching 50 of every type of legendary fish or something along those lines. Something that would take a lot of time to do but not require an abysmal rate of catching the same annoying fish with a 0.5% chance max.

Dropped from a alterante version of Bismark, a level 110 fishing skill monster that would take an party of well geared players to kill. 1 hour respawn on the NM win or lose, but it would be on the boat between whitegate and Mhaura so it puts a strict time limit on it making it harder to kill. Reskin the Whale White and call it Moby.

Nothing. He's making me rich. I mean.. errr..

Chain quest (on top of rumors KI)

Start with a titanictus, then a Ryu-Titan, then follow the chain down each legendary fish and finish with Matsya. The fish are tagged with 'EX' while you're on the quest so you can't buy them, maybe rename them slightly and only make the target-able while on the quest.

I remember trying to catch a Titanic Sawfish with lushang. I about raged at all my breaks. A Matsya on a lu-shang would be just about as 'random luck' as getting the items from gutting as it is.

This keeps it challenging, time consuming, and progressive. There is no 'buy all the things!' and mass gut for items, and you get to travel the world catching the different legendaries to turn in.

I think if you can land all the legendaries with a lushang (including Mats) you deserve an ebisu.

50 of each might be a little extreme, I think 20/25 would be solid for things like Titans, Haks, ect. But the rarer ones (sawfish, Mats) would be 10 max.

I have an ebisu rod and all I can say it takes gil to make gil. Or you can take time but I did a little of both and got mine with probably 3 million. On Zaldon I say make it to where you can have the option to forgo gil when he guts in exchange for a better percentage of getting items. Also the reverse can be done and have it to where your gil is increased but for a lower percentage. Of course I am not against a trial of the magians for getting it. I would like to see an ebisu rod with stronger line that gets less breaks to none at all.

Flag quest at Irmilant (100 fishing pre-req): He mentions something philosophical about how the truest of fisherpeople are those who "teach a man to fish," as opposed to simply selling/handing them out. And that those who embody this principle will attain treasures both tangible and spiritual as a result. Quest will be flagged as "Indomitable Spirit."

Part 1: After flagging this quest, Panja-Nanja offers a sub-quest. He has traveled the world in a desperate search to finally catch a fish, when, lo and behold, he got a bite! Unfortunately, his poor little yew rod broke...and with it, he lost the very special line attached to it entrusted to him by his great-great-grandfather-wather (a great fisherman, no less). Your job is to fish up this item (Opal Silk), which can appear in any fishable area in Vana'diel! Panja doesn't recall exactly where he was at the time due to his trying several fishing spots recently, but it was somewhere in the X region (X changing depending on where the item will be found that interval).

(This quest would become active at a random interval, similar to mog tablets; there'd also be a week or so cooldown. That means peoples would be competing for this item within a specific time-frame!)

Part 2: Return the Opal Silk to Panja-Nanja. He will be eternally-wernally grateful, and recognize you as a fishergod among fishertaru. He'll let you keep the Opal Silk for this magnificent feat, but you must do him a favor in return. He wants you to share some of your secrets to catching fish, so he suggests going to a special-wecial fishing hole that is rumored to contain a notoriously elusive fish. If you can fish that baby up, surely it would impart some sage insight into the secrets of fishing technique!

Travel to MMM entrance, enter a BCNM, and you'll appear in an arena with Panja-Nanja, and a fishing spot. Cast your line, and reel in the fish that bites on the first cast (it's some lame little moat carp!). Despite this pathetic turn of events, Panja goes by example and gives fishing a try, and on his cast, he pulls up a Pteraketos-type mob, immediately knocking Panja unconscious! Kill this mob (probably need a party/alliance), 100% drops saber shoot (I'm not clear on how to ensure that it would go to the right person, though). End CS has Panja back on his feet, wondering what the hell just happened, and not remembering that he ever caught the fabled fish. He continues to remain hopeful that, someday, he'll catch something, anything...

Turn in items to Irmilant = bingo.

tl;dr Panja-Nanja fanfic involving rods and master baiting.

20m probably had a lot more value than 20m has nowadays, what with the many easy ways you can generate gil from NPCs.

VVV Ah, I see.

When I completed my Ebisu the fish worth was as much as salvage bodies back then. I didn't buy hardly any fish though, I was so broke Dx, so I had to fish with my lu without WW leveled for ~3 months.

I can say without a shred of doubt that you will be completely well off and will need to repair the rod every 6-10 fish with sometimes two breaks in a row. I was able to fish around 60 gugs per day before burning out and needing to take a break. Thankfully Kalilla and her boyfriend were fishing next to me which sped the process up as I merc'd them for gilz :D

60 per day over a week or so even two should prove worthwhile and you can eventually get it for sure. Without woodworking? Yeah have fun warping to rabao every boat trip :\

I wasn't crying, was just saying it would be nice for another way to get the item. Don't know where you are getting 4mil from. Gugs are 30k on Bismarck, x849 = over 25mil, luckily I haven't had to purchase all 849 of them but its still a bit disheartening to be 0/849 when everyone else in my linkshell seems to be getting the items in less then 50 trades.
