Was making a few shrimp lures for a friend and popped it out on the 11/12 synth.

I've -never- had a 0.3 skillup ; ;

bazaar it. It is rare. otherwise its an hq frog lure - so catch donko or gavial fish with it - they wont break.

Thanks for filling me in on the pelican ring. It's been a great help thus far. Is getting the Mooching Key Item a good idea? It only allows you to use two kinds of bait, but I'm not sure if that's really useful. Should I leave that as one of the last things to get?

I looked forever for a lizard lure and ended up buying one for 500k awhile back.

Does 110 skill have any significant impact on line breaks with haks? Or how about 110 skill + mega moglification + 7 skill from gears?

I'd like to say a very special thank you to Dasva of Bahamut for selling me some Lik and alot of Gugs. If it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't have gotten both Silk and Shoot this week. So looking forward to getting the Ebisu.

Also, since I turned in both today, will I get Ebisu this or next Sunday?

I would love to see SE come out with a massive fishing ban for those people that use 3nd party tools to catch their fish for them. Ill be laughing so hard. I see a new fishing rod maybe in the expansion maybe.

They do, they need to prove they bot first though. They can't just ban everyone and hope they're right.

I've always wondered does the Fishing Apron decrease the bite rate of Trumpet Shells and Shall Shells? I've been fishing Trumpets for a while now with apron on, I hope I'm not making things worse.

just started fishing, read the whole wiki page on it but I have a question it didnt answer. What are skill ups limited to? just fish above your level, or can monsters give them too? im assuming rusty ***wont give skill ups.

So has anyone else been randomly /heal or /sit between casts lately? I was fishing last night and out of the blue I /heal (rested). I figured I did something like hit the button on my controller but then a few casts later I /sit. I don't have that macro'd or a button on my controller for that ... only way is to type it out.

I sent a report to the in game GMs about game bugs and so far haven't got a reply. Unless some dat in my game is corrupt, I'm assuming this is how they check for bots now?



Shall shells I can say for a fact, unless they've change things since the old days (circa '06~) as they were an item and not a fish. There used to be a fishing parser that would show the "fish ID" and it had the same series of numbers as rusty junk and kelp did. Fish ID would basically tell you what fish you had on the hook. Trumpets I'm not sure about and I have not seen a working fish/crafting parser in years.

Whether or not the apron hinders this, I cannot say. I don't think I had an apron yet when shall shells stopped being worth the time :(

So I recently just got into fishing. So far my skill is at level 12, and ive read almost every page on here up till now...plus some on BG. I didnt even realize so many people used bots at this point in the game. I went to beaucedine glacier and /tell'd everyone fishing there and didnt get a single reply. Made me second guess myself whether I really want to fish for an ebisu or not. It would be a cool achievement to have...but with so many bots around I can't help but feel like it would lessen the personal feeling of accomplishment. People need to learn how to just play the game and enjoy it for what it is...

Doesn't matter what other people in the game do. if you feel doing ebisu is an achievement then do it. Personally I'm at the stage that I hate fishing for ebisu because Gugs are the most infuriating fish in the game and after a couple hours I'm ready to rage quit.

On the subject of the bots, they make less gil fishing 24 hours straight then you do afking in abyssea for 4 hours. Both are done while not at the keyboard. I don't condone botting, but it really is -not- an issue at this stage of the game for fishing.

Completely understandable. While I wouldn't solely attribute my not fishing anymore to all the obvious botters, I will say that it makes it very difficult to find the motivation to get back in the swing of things. On the one hand, I'd like to skill up to 110 and make a bit of gil on the way, but I know others will be able to do so with greater ease and efficiency by using fishing programs. Plus, any achievement obtained by legitimate means (e.g. 110 skill) is indistinguishable from others who use 3rd party means; such achievements do not globally reflect time and effort because of these outside factors.


As unfortunate as it may seem, this is probably the same piece of advice that you will be offered. Botting is what it is, and everyone must find their own reasons for fishing regardless of what others are doing. I haven't been able to fully adopt this bit of advice myself (otherwise I might start fishing again), but I recognize there is little I can do to stop others from botting, and that each person has their own philosophy into what is "right," "wrong," "comfortable," or "uncomfortable" to do. Personally, I am not comfortable with botting, and have never botted myself, but I still try to respect others' choices to bot.

edit: Funnily enough, I'm now starting to gear up my character to go fish for skill-ups. I guess I'm trying to take a bit of my own advice.

edit2: Correction - I have spent this time storing/muling gear to make room for fish in my inventory, and now I'm crafting a crap ton of bait. I forgot about all the prep work involved when planning for a fish outing...On the bright side, crafting is much faster, and bait stacks to 99! <3

And dwarf pugil are still useless outside of catching matsya/lik/gugrusaurus, correct?

To 110 I'm not sure. I know they go up to 108. Dwarf pug is pretty useless even for those fish unless you want a matsya for a trophy.

Already have 20 of those; just hanging on to them in case we can ever gut them.

-20 inventory for the chance of SE allowing you to gut them? Screw that. Inventory > diamonds.

Oh my God, I picked the right time to start fishing again! This was one of the biggest things that made gugrusaurus fishing so frustrating, and why I never really bothered with hakuryu. Knowing that PC players had to use extra equipment/effects to get on the same "level" as PS2 players was incredibly discouraging.

I was just mentioning to someone earlier this week how they had indicated they were going to do this update, but that was a year or so ago. Glad they didn't forget!
