This has been my mentality for years, even when there was no special reward for having Ebisu other than selling the Lu. I always figured that since I was going through so much effort for mine, that everyone else should have to too.
Maybe I'd have felt differently if I had gil to buy my way into one like the others. I recently had a person ask me to fish them a Puffin because they couldn't reel in crocks... and they own an Ebisu.

I was so confused when ebisu was released and the two fish weren't ex...
It made no sense to me, great gil but it didn't make sense.
I've always been tempted by the gil, but I have always taken the high road because... well I'm a .
I still enjoy fishing though, and I think I might enjoy it more for all the hardship. My only wish is new fish in new locations that NPC decently for me to skill up 100-110. The update seems to have yielded only 1 new fish, for our limit quest. -_-
I wish they made it static like lu shang though except with much more difficult fish (lik/gug). Not 10k of course, but similar to that quest and having a static number to turn in.
I have a feeling they have some ToM stuff coming (backburner) for Ebisu or maybe a new piece of equipment like a hat *cross fingers* in which you will get that wish Kali.
oh well, took me about 8 hours or so to get 1 lvl, imo it's really really slow past 100, skilling on Liks and Haks so far, @ 101.3 now and from what i can tell, no more line breaks since i hit 101. Got 20-30 Haks after 101 and no line break yet.
I got all skill gear + Stall + The Big one, dunno if it makes any difference, too lazy to test it out, i'm just happy that i don't have to buy any more bait to fish Haks lol

I'm pretty sure you won't get full points for ranking up. If I remember correctly, you only get the remaining points. If you traded in 4k worth of GP items prior to ranking up and the next fish is worth 5k points, I believe you would only get 1k points.

I thought that was more like it...I'm conflicted now.
Chance it and get an extra 5k if it works or only 600 extra if it doesn't.
I remember catching these years ago and having a horrible rate with anything but trout, but since I decided not to chance upgrading my rank, wasn't too big of a deal haha
There are fishing topics that come up now and then but mainly are asking a question for a single answer. I know there are many fishers that visit these forums so this is an attempt to get people involved and have a little fun discussing one and only one thing, fishing!

I know Blue Gartr has a Fishing topic already, but I would like to see this community get involved a little bit and talk, since not everyone visits BG. I would love to have a topic just for fishers including veteran fishers, casual fishers, and even players just starting out and want to ask a few questions without being embarrassed about starting a whole topic for a simple answer they could not find.
I only ask that you keep any bot talk to a minimum, preferably none.[Moderator edit: No bot talk] I want this to be a place where we can discuss anything from GP items of the day to what lure/bait to use or what area is best. A quick mention of how you're doing on the lu shang/ebisu quest, how you're doing getting your fishing items from Grounds of Valor, that item you're saving your GP up for, or how much you wish you could hurt Zaldon for not finding anything in your fish for the 10,000th time. Your lucky moment streaks and the moments when you have nothing come your way and question why you started fishing in the first place. Anything that comes to mind, think of it as the random thoughts thread for fishing.
