I made 6 a few years back in 100 synths or so, but never used it for anythin. :/
On my 9th boatride waiting for Pirates to show up ; ; (dont have sandcharm) so I can soon start hating Zaldon like everyone else.
So far killed 2 sea horrors, watched another one slowly kill someone who was 'fishing' over the course of 5 minutes lol.

I always just used the old 'door target pops immediately if Pirates are due' method.
And if Pirates were not due warp straight out back to my Home Point set in Selbina to wait for next boat.
Or Mhaura. I forget. That anyway.
Would be pointlessly easy to warp between Mhara and Selbina now that Waypoints are in both. To check for earliest boat.

I don't mind if pirates don't show up, can still fish Titans and Ryus.
What level would be safe to start fishing ebisu fish?

Mid 80s at least with rings you will still get a ton of breaks so be prepared ;)

Getting pirates is luck really, not much point in warping unless you feel lucky leaving from the same town every time since the ferry leaves both sides at the same time.

whiskered them all with my blu and got my sand charm.
Oh and bluetail/noble lady are amazing for skill it looks like. Got +.6 in one boat trip after i stopped going after tuna. They sure are easy to catch with ~32 skill for fish that caps at 55/66.

Congratulations. Mostly on your tolerance... I gave up after three hours!
Oh God! I got pirates after 6 hours of riding back and forth on the Ferry - and no Sand Charm dropped. Luckily I got it about two boat rides later.
Only way I didn't /wrists was because I was able to leave myself signed in to the PC while at work and otherwise keep busy.

whats the bitrate.. well loose catch rate.. on Liks with Dwarf Pugils?
Matsyas take forever to sell somehow and a LS member wants to buy Lik's.. so i thought of maybe useing some of my stored Pugils for those... so curious if the lost rate with pugils is lower then with Minnows.
or well.. Conagh if you want to buy fish from Pra/me we have like 300 pugils stored and atm we prefere to fish matsya when we know someone is looking to buy..

As SoA draws near, I've been thinking of working a bit on fishing during downtimes. Was wondering if it's worth investing into a Lu Shang with only 10 Fishing, or if I should wait til higher on? Most of the guides I've read usually recommend it Fishing 30+, so was just curious.

It's totally worth it.
I would wait around the Nashmau levels myself (50+) my alt did fine without but if you got the gil sure, will need it eventually.

They recommend this because until the mid-30s it's really easy to target moat carps along with your skill-up fish; when they say "get lu shangs in the mid-30s" they mean "stop leveling and finish your 10k moat carps".
This is bad advice for a lot of reasons, but for your purposes the most important one is that 10 million for an item that saves you a TON of time and aggravation (as well as money on bait) you can resell for the same amount when you're done with is honestly not a lot of money these days, and the time you spend actually getting those carps yourself is in all likelihood worth quite a bit more than that.

Was level 10 on Jan 16th, purchased a Lu Shang as advised from a LS member, as it stands I'm currently 64 and couldn't be happier. I didn't have to care where I fished, what level the fish were, it worked great.

I don't really think you need one until you head to Nashmau. You don't lose bait from anything you skill up before then if you use minnows or rigs, and it really isn't that much time saved if you fish something like shall shells to 50 (I really recommend doing these. Skill ups are amazing). A halcon rod will be just as useful until you finish on shall shells.
If you have the gil, though, go ahead and get one. You'll need it eventually.

Amazing to hear all of this information, so I went ahead and parted with the gil, since the ability to resell it a at a later time, on top of saving so much frustration later on was an easy sale.
Since I've never even really been in the fishing game at this point, should I continue onward with the guide I'm using saying I can go up to 30 at the pond in Qufim, or with Lu Shang in hand, do I just jump over to Bubu and start working on shall shells?

I guess you can level woodworking by breaking it if you want it to take months and months. Or hold it for speculation if you think the price will increase.

If you ever plan to raise a fishing mule to put an Ebisu on it. Makes it easier to skill up til 78, but you can find alternatives without a Lu.
My favorite thing in the world? Finding out the guy that bought my account was using the account's Ebisu Rod to complete the Lu-Shang's quest.. So he could have the "legendary fishing rod" he heard so much about.

Hello, I'm new to fishing :D. Two basic questions. Where do I fishe after level 9? Quus and Nebonites are being evil to me. Second, does catching higher fish lower skill up or....?

I liked Tiger Cod and Nosteau Herring in Qufim Island til 30. If you need the gil, you can try SSG for Nebimonites. Much better bite rate than if you're currently catching them on the ferry.
The higher the level the fish is to you, the greater chance of skill ups. Or at least that's been my personal experience.
