Fondest Memories of FFXI!
When i sold Leaping boots for 500k so i could afford ice & dark staff! the only staffs there was for blm
Being a nooby player! Being so much into the game you didn't care about the gear, weapons or anything, just focus on exploring around, seeing the new zones... and sharing all this with my brother was just amazing.

Those first steps out into the wilds of west Ron. Running around smacking bunnies with an onion staff and casting stone, all the while rocking the ? Next to my name.
First time on the selbina-mhaura boat, pirates attacked, literally a second after I opened the door a skele turned and slapped my ***, didn't even have time to move.
Was playing at a friends house and we were both lol'ing. Fondest memory.... Can't say there is just one... Example.....My ingame wedding to Vipreubaud. This was back on 6/7/06 we both were very happy that our "wedding day" wasn't scheduled for the previous day. Back then you had to have a chaperon "apply" for your wedding and date. Took us 6 months to get a date. Wedding was in South Sandy. Our entire linkshell and lots of friends joined us. We had an absolute blast that day. All the screen-shots are gone now unfortunately but the memories will always be there...
Being on Xbox live with my friends screaming my lungs out because after months of doing the Hagun ENM run weekly we finally got mine. Think we went 7 months and got 4 Haguns. Still can't bring myself to get rid of it even though SAM is retired. I look at the price now on AH and just /sigh We all worked so hard for those GK the feeling of accomplishment is unforgettable. Going to Fanfest 2008 with Vipreubaud. Meeting alot of awesome friends. Open bar the night before the actual event was out of control.
Current Linkshell had a real world Linkshell Event. Met in New Orleans for a week @ Halloween last year.. New Orleans and good friends! What a blast! First walk to Jeuno from San ~
Laying dead for the full hour wondering why people are pointing and laughing in West Ron instead of helping ~ Sub job skull hunting with like 15 others in the dunes ~ CoP ~ VE camping against like 25 other (RMT's) wondering "How the hell do they know where its gonna pop!?" And probably, 1 year Journey to the first 75 thinking "No way in hell I will ever have another 75 job" Sylph.Liltrouble

My fondest memories, so far, always involved someone else. They're not made up of personal accomplishments as I'd never have been able to do them without some help along the way.
Discovering Jueno for the first time, unlocking my subjobs, being awarded my tamas ring, my [GM] wedding held in the upper jueno cathedral. Fortunately, my memories are still being created, and recorded. Before, without windower or fraps, I was unable to document anything. When I was playing with this mithra who I thought was a girl until she told me she was a guy...
or the time someone mistakenly bought an earth crystal from me for 400k :D beating CoP still seems surreal.
Ive played online games before but have never played more than a day. I honestly never expected to get anywhere in ffxi especially not anywhere near beating an expansion..and of all of them CoP!? that shiznit was hard. also, my first day in the boyahda tree was funny. I kept hearing stories of the "high" levels partying in this uber high leveled place called the Boyahda tree and I had all these big expectations..I thought you'd be partying out on the branches of this huge tree..and then I get there and its like..pfft crawlers nest again. Also the first day I partied with a bard was as a 72 rdm on dhalmels at bibiki. I didnt even know what a bard did really..I could not figure out wtf I was supposed to do as a rdm because it seemed redundant to have 2 refreshers (cause all bards cast is ballad duh). That was like my first melee/mostly mnk burn pt..Im forgetting my ff terminology already..Id been used to having a camp..never have I had to chase after my DDs before. I was so confused. Then Aht Urgahn came out months afterwards and I had been on vacation/moved across the country and that was the only pt style everybody was doing all of a sudden..I was totally afraid of pts because that was not the old school style I was used to. Culture shock wtf. Actually the entire experience of leveling back then was strange looking back. I mean it took me 2 years to level my rdm to 75ish. I started playing in December 2002..and then quit and came back..hit 75 in 2005? I think..so yeah..slow going for a rdm. Compared to now especially. Ive not played in a year or so..I hear it only takes days now >.> back then we had 1 computer and I am one of five kids..we had 2 hour turns on the computer each. So I always did the math of when Id level up. If I had 40k tnl and If it was an excellent amazing day and managed to get 10k exp in my 2hrs which didnt happen often..then I could get lvl up in......4days! how did I survive!? and FU Maat..beat him on my 11th try. I know I didnt suck at soloing because Id fing solo Ruby Quadav for hours and hours for my own testimony and its the same strategy! Maat just hated me..and Im a wuss and would scream as soon as I entered the arena. Turn back the clock to the PS2 launch back in '04, my friends and I all started at the same time and had a blast wandering around this wondrous new world, living out something we had always talked about: "wouldn't it be awesome to play something like Final Fantasy together online, using those cool job classes and exploring?".
Sure enough, it was great for a while, and when I finally got my Warlock's Chapeau, it was one of my proudest gaming moments. I have neither the time nor the desire to play FFXI(or any mmo for that matter) these days, but sometimes it's fun to think back to those times. Siren.Liquidsilk

My fondest memory is quitting this lame game which amounts to nothing but reskins and pretty much a glorified dress-up barbie chat room.

Getting 75 on my WHM way back in the day. I think it took almost a year to do so. And my first dunes pt. Had an full alliance of subjobless folks. We pulled VE and wiped, had to HP but everyone waited till we all walked back to the dunes. Good times!
Mine isn't that cool but beating Laila 1/1 and getting lvl 75. I felt so accomplished. Also being able to kill stuff in campaign before lvl 80 increase. I was so happy when I got my Joyeuse and 5/5 +2.
When I would get the claim on an overcamped, overcrowded HNM. It was few and far between but when I would my heart would pound and I would get such a rush. Of course the GMs, the stealing, the MPKing and the QQing that happened afterwards was always fun too :P
Best memories for me was obviously back when I first started the game, meeting new people, always being invited as a WHM (my first 75). Most of my best memories are in my screenshots in my profile, I'll link to one:
http://www.ffxiah.com/screenshots/54732 Must have been back in 2006 - Beating the Mammet fight (which was by far, the toughest thing I had done in the game up to that point) with Telperion, Maxicat, Stefaniecat, Chrisofdeath, and Oneshot.
Failing that, finally completing CoP a couple years later. I feel like SE really robbed folks of a real sense of accomplishment when they nerfed all the CoP missions. A close third would be the first time I took out Spiny Spipi and got the mist silk cape drop. That 30k really made my day. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the time back in '05 when someone had popped the Fomor mob for one of the WHM AF quests in Valkurm, proceeded to zone it to the highlands zone, and then me, as a lvl 12 warrior, watching in awe and horror as the Fomor RNG laid waste to no less than fifty n00bs, myself included. God d@mn, this game was good. Duoing as MNK and DRK on things probably.
It was not a good duo partnership, but by god it was fun swapping hate with each other :D And fighting EVERY NM without even reading wiki, just running straight in with a voke and trying to slap it's ***, until it turned it around with a huge move and floored us both. Some great times. With Bore, Eggbert, Wynter, Tangle and Elhartd I miss Elhartd so much, he just dropped off the face of the earth :( The best memories I ever had was hanging with my good friends gene and Lear in Circle of Knights. I love ya guys ;)

Hmmm...
1) the first ls that took interest in helping me instead of finding ways to trip up "the new player". They took me through the first Promies, helped me get my first set of RDM AF, elemental staves (several members loaned me gil with the promise of repayment, 2 were made and signed), one made Errants Gear(signed) when I beat Maat on my first character (still have this), and several people who still include me in pt's not related to ls events. 2) Getting into my first Dynamis LS and being drafted to be the person responsible for enfeebling all the NM. (thank god for team speak, and that ls leaders patience). I probably learned more about Rdm from those people than anyother LS i have been with since. 3) My first piece of relic, and my last for 6/6 items and +1's my duelist's chapeau. These were ALL called items so I about when through the ceiling when they were called for me. 4) Brewing shinryu for the first time and having 5 twilight pieces drop, including the cloak (MINE). Getting a hectate's earring because no one else in the pt wanted it. 5) Mostly I remember the unique and wonderful people I have met over the last 6-7 years(?). Especially the people that have gone out of their way to help me or include me in pt's that have enabled me to get the AF3+2 (and all 3 accessories) for my main jobs. my fondest memorys in ffxi were in an old linkshell called skyshell 90% of the members were new to sky i was finally more experienced than 99% of the shell and reveled in teaching people and helping them progress, we used to have a linkshell ventrillo server and every conversation seemed to end in a good laugh ^^ loads of fun times, got most of the sky gear i wanted and needed and met some at the time great people sadly great things never last and we were broken apart but the times we had will be the best memories in ffxi for me

I wouldn't classify 2009 as "Forever ago" but I guess it's not new. :) Footage is older than video post. I had the footage a few years before I decided to actually do something with it :P Getting Assassin's Armlets because the one guy who had one more point than me, and also wanted them couldn't make the run, or getting my Homam Cosciales.
When I read over these posts I can't help but think of when I was a noob thinking that I was the best tank ever because of an epic event that happened in QSC. In an XP pt, the blm cast freeze on the beetle too early and I raced the beetle to the blm, used cover the instant that it attacked and the blm never got hit.
every time the mage took hate and ran away ever since then, I would scream "Wait! I can do this!!" Good times. My most memorable moment in FFXI was most definitively obtaining an Octave Club on my first account. I spent my whole summer in Labyrinth of Onzozo on 72BST/RDM soloing Lord of Onzozo, I might of left that zone maybe 3 times in 50 days to get pet food. I ended up going 1/45 on it before it actually dropped.
Even after obtaining a Kraken Club, 100fishing/ebisu, almost every AV drop, and a relic I still think obtaining that Octave club was my happiest point in FFXI. |
