Thread locking and deleting epidemic

I know mods have personal lives and real life responsibilities should always be put first in my opinion. That still doesn't excuse them from being lazy with the responsibility they took on here. Yes, what if they do see a thread where a little tough love is needed? Give it a little tough love or get another mod to look at it while his/her hands are full. Everyone has a way of contacting each other on here, mods/admins included. Why can't Krizz send Anye a PM when he has to deal with his daughter and work? Why can't Anye send one to Alyria when she's in the middle of classes? Etc, etc. I see these premature nukes as being lazy and half-assing the responsibility.
But what if Sav gets all jealous that Krizz has my texting number? D:

I don't know where you work Urial, or how many hours you work, but I go to school for 7 and a half hours a day, almost a full work day for an adult, and then I come home with an hour+ of homework. And paying bills? What, 15 minutes tops per month to pay that crap online, don't even use that as an excuse.
I have the same, if not less free time than adult working a normal 40 hour a week job. People act like just because school isn't work that you have all the time in the world to *** around.

You don't sound insensitive, and you have a good point. It's something that people should be considering before becoming mods. I just think modding is probably harder than most normal users think it is.
being a regular mod isnt hard, i've done it. Close threads, ban people, brush off complaints, point to the rules (or the door), its easier if you enjoy doing those things. The only slightly "hard" thing about being a mod is occasionally having to deal with spam bots. Being an admin/coder is the hard job.

Since Krizz is the one most people are mad at, let's look at him for example. Krizz is a single father with a young child or two and a job. If his daughter is crying for her breakfast and he's on his way out the door for work and he sees a thread that he has to make a judgement call on, which would be easier? To go through the thread and pick out offending posts/users or to nuke the whole thing and give attention to what needs attention in his life?
If this is the case and someone is that busy that they can't perform the necessary job for being a mod, maybe the position should be given to someone else. I only see one mod doing things around here. If there is such a problem with the way things are that people are making these threads and lashing out which is resulting in bans, not to mention the public criticism from various other FFXI related community sites, I think there should be some thought put into why that is. As it stands there are only a handful of consistent posters and that number is shrinking monthly.

Anyway, I have posted on our admin/mod section if I see something that needs to be handled, but I don't have the time to at the moment.
There were multiple reports in that thread. I checked the page the reports were on, and the last two pages of the thread. It looked to be mostly off topic and the same users going back and forth. I locked it. If the OP or someone had sent me a PM, I would've reviewed the thread more thoroughly, cleaned it up, and unlocked it. From what I saw, it wasn't worth it at the time.
There are a lot of people who complain on the forum, but never try to handle things via PM first. Those that PM me usually end up with a satisfactory answer (whether it's accepting the reason for the action, or I agree to untopicban/unlock/etc.).

I may be wrong, but I think two of the three mods have children, and that is a priority that you could not understand. Pretty big commitment if you ask me, and I think they do an excellent job balancing their commitments. (I'm not the only one who understands why they would prioritize some commitments over others.)
The mods are not selfish in handling the forums the way they do. I would rather know that they have outside interests, lives, and real world experience. It makes it that much better knowing that their lives don't revolve around a computer screen.
Uri and I both hold Krizz in high regard (along with a handful of others), and are may be more sympathetic to his life outside of this carnival called FFXIAH. He's doing this to the best of his abilities, and I doubt many could do a better job of moderation.
Obviously you missed Uri's point entirely.

Shush. All I can say about this is that my life got significantly easier once I was out of highschool and living on my own. School from 8-3, football/wrestling/track from 3-5, work from 5-10, drive home, homework and still had time to play video games/read forums all while having girl friends.
Now a days, my only responsibilities include working full time, a two and a half year old son, and a girlfriend of six years. Yet I still play games just as much now as I did then.
Don't tell me "grown ups" have more commitments or responsibilities than someone "living with mommy and daddy".

It's really getting a bit out of control.
Granted, the Users who abuse the forums and derail threads for their own masturbatory purposes are just as to blame as the moderators.
Still, it's getting to be REALLY obnoxious how frequently I've gone to Submit a reply to a thread/topic, only to discover that the discussion has been locked or deleted during the time I was writing a response.
If you've been around these forums for the past year, you know I'm the *last* person you'd probably expect to say that we could use a little less moderation around here.
If the majority of threads in the Politics and Religion section of the forums are just to be deleted or locked, I understand why. But in that case, do we even really need a Politics and Religion section?
Wouldn't it be a better solution to just topic-ban the offensive and/or de-railing morons that "contribute" to these threads just to see how many pages long the thread can be?
If topic-bans and/or User bans are either ineffective at changing User behavior, or too time-consuming for the moderators (i.e. if Lock/deletions are being used "because it's easier"), then I re-propose my old idea of implementing the "adult table" and "kiddie table" forums' permissions levels.
And if none of those suggestions are palatable, for whatever reasons, just scrap the Politics and Religion section entirely.
