Gamestop removes coupons from Deus Ex PC copies
By Hsieh 2011-08-25 16:43:52
Gamestop is a POS store, no longer go there anyways because on 2 separate occasions me and my friend pre-orderd FFXI expansions from there, I got mine both time but some how even though we both went in together to pre-pay and to pick up they always sold his copies to some one else, well for ToA, they said they wern't getting in more of then one he needed, ps2 I think, and tried to give him the xbox version. SO they can f#$% suck it, why did we pre-pay if you're going ot just sell it to who comes in? I thought the point of pre-paying was so I didn't have to come in a 12am mid-night and could come in on my free time a week later and it still be there.
SCREW GAMESTOP If you're referring to the CoP expanision, it was not Gamestop's fault. The PC version got recalled back before release due to mispackaging of some sort. All retailers did not received PC copies to sell at release.

Things that make me /wrist at game stop
1) Developers give special content to Lamestop that is not available anywhere else for reserving a game (or an unique item different to other stores, in this case, it sucks when its nicer than everyone else's)
2) The "NEW" game you want to buy, its the last one on the store. They give you a busted box/cover that was on display, with a price sticker that leaves glue stains when removed, and added a new sticker to re-seal it :|
It has been proven, that workers take stuff home to watch or play and then bring it back and STILL sell it as new.
3) the "OMG WTF U R NOOB IDIOT" for not reserving a game and wanting to buy it the day of release or during that week.
after all the BS I buy my games in Amazon or Best Buy :/ Number 2) is false. Gamestop was sued for that in the past and I have not seen that done anywhere. They even open new copies of the game because one gamestop told me someone was buying used Blockbuster copies and resealing them as new and returning them to Gamestop for returns. But no, they resell the game as used. Generally there will be 1 copy used of a new release due to employee "training" of the game. I know this because I've known multiple people to work at Gamestop at different regions.
Gamestop and Walmart are the only two places I know you can pick up the game at midnight of release. I'm not saying Gamestop is the worst place to shop or the best, just stating the facts.

Gamestop annoys me.
I don't know if it's just the one where I live, but everytime I have peordered a game from them I usually pay $10-$20 on it.
(fast foward 18 months later when the game actually comes out, because Gamestop makes up *** release dates just to get pre-order money)
I go up there to get my game and they always try to charge me full price for my pre-order. And EVERYTIME I have to tell them that I have already paid a portion of it. -.-
Also, pretty much every Gamestop I've been in hires *** idiots who don't know anything about video games/accesories. I'm pretty sure the only games those guys play are CoD and Madden on their Wiis. Noobs.

Actually, no, that is true. GameStop does indeed "gut" at least one copy of every new game they have in stock, so that they can display that they have it. If it's the last copy, you get a game that has been resealed with a clear circle shaped sticker which is actually even harder to get off than the price sticker. -.-
Edit: And it will be sold as new.

This much I will admit. There's only one time where I've went somewhere and they actually knew what an RPG was.

yup. and this is a problem when a rare game comes out, that normal stores dont shelve them, and stores like GS only get 1~3 copies.

On Tuesday, I saw two copies left on the shelf behind the counter of Deus Ex. And the GM told customers there were only two copies left. Looked pretty new and sealed to me (XBOX360 version).

One of those will get gutted. They actually have a list of how many people pre-ordered which version for which system for any game. The biggest problem is their policy is that they can only hold those copies for 48 hours before they are told to sell those copies to walk-ins as well (Not as much of a concern for big titles like CoD and Madden, but something we only get one or two of? HUGE issue. :{ ).

some time ago, I pre-ordered something off Amazon, a day before release day, I got an email saying it got back ordered for 3 weeks, next morning I go to gamestop to see if i could get same item. Because I did not reserve it, the manager basically told me I was a retard for not pre-ordering it.... t(-.-t)

The only reason I will ever step into another gamestop (with the intention to buy something, it's a good diversion at the mall) is if I want to pre-order a system. Their only real value in my experience is that they'll take pre-orders over a year in advance.
On that note, I'm scared how much the next gen systems are going to cost.

I must be the only one that doesn't have problems with my local gamestop... then again like all my friends work their so they wouldn't pull this typical bs on me lol, I've been in there day of release before games are even delivered and handed a fresh copy straight from the box.
Pretty sure if I had preordered DXHR they'd have kept me a sealed copy for me, they don't care about the bs they are doing lol. (I asked them earlier what they would've done lol)
mostly I just get used games from gamestop so it's not like a major deal really, new games I tend to get on steam if they are available on steam anyway.

I know for my store, the GM said there weren't many preorders for Deus Ex, but a lot of people were buying it on day of release.
I don't have a problem with the 48 hr policy and think it's fair.
I can understand your point on copies of 1 or 2 games, and Gamestop shouldn't be able to gut those and sell as new. It would suck if preorders on a game couldn't be done and had to rush and wait in line for it. Screw that. Same thing with game systems. I wouldn't wait in line for it unless maybe I was trying to make the quick buck of reselling it which most people do.

Basically Gamestop is so massive, they don't really care.
Is this going to hurt their bottom line? Nope. Not one bit.
They do what they want because they are basically a monopoly. Like 30 minutes from my house there is a Gamestop right across from another Gamestop and they both make incredible amounts of money lol.

Basically what I was saying was yes, they do gut one new copy of the game for the shelves. However, yes, they will turn around and sell that copy as new to a walk-in customer. It really is a shame that they have to do that, but there is also the fact that many of those empty boxes do get stolen, people thinking that the game is still inside. :{

Best thing I got at Gamestop only because my friend was working there was Zelda Ocarina of Time/Master Quest Gamecube disc without preorder. He was like, "You're lucky I'm your friend." But he also sold me a lot of crappy games. :/

If i buy a game brand new, i buy it on base. Tax free :D
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6330790.html
Well well... /clap... I don't often post much, I often find myself very forgiving. I never planned to get Deus Ex cause it just didn't seem to appeal to me nor do I care for digital/stream/steam copies of games and much perfer a hard copy.
Now I never did like gamestop, but I found them convenient to just go down the road to get a game. Gotta admit I'm now Amazon full-time (atleast for games).
