both of those sound relatively exciting. I'm trying to decide which niche I fit into with nursing. I love doing/helping with medical procedures..I really don't know how to get into one of those departments. I'm afraid Ill get stuck being a floor nurse and not know how to move up from there. School clinicals are killing me and I know I'm able to do more than bathe people (not that thats not an important necessity..I would just like to stick an IV for once on a person)
Yeah school clinicals generally tend to be hell. I'd say do something critical care to get some good experience. ER is good in that you learn to be a jack of all trades, so then you can see what you enjoy more, and move in that direction from there. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get a job in an ER department, since the burn out rate is insanely high. Though it seems to make all of us a tad bit jaded.
Otherwise maybe working in the OR with surgeries sounds like it might suit you. Also pretty easy to find a job in if you don't mind odd hours (the day surgery shifts tend to fill up with people with highest seniority).

Alaik said:
That and the saving lives really just means explaining to people that they get sick sometimes and don't need an ER. Of course when they refuse to accept that you get the fun of diagnosing them with "General Malaise" and treating them with Nomahsaline.
Yes... People using the ER because they are too lazy to go to a clinic or their own doctor tend to drive me insane. That and the people who believe they are so sick theyre going to die when they only have a cold... The worst part being is that I have to be fake nice, and not tell them how stupid they are.
I actually had someone recently come in because they drank paint thinner thinking it was their coffee. It took everything in me to not put their presenting complaint as 'natural selection'.

Firefighter / EMT and Florida state certified Driver / Pump operator (currently in the promotional process).

I love my job. It's probably the most versatile thing i've done. it allows me to use skills i've gained the just about every other job i've ever done, and roll them into figuring our the best ways to get stuff done.

I've done carpentry, roofing, auto mechanics, masonry, etc etc, so as far as having a house fire, i have a good insight of what's ahead and what's needed to get in, and get the job done.

The other thing i love about my job is the fact that when i go into work, i have no idea what i'm doing for the next 24 hours... when i did roofing.... i knew exactly what i was going to do... I was going to be in the sun, for 10 hours... sweating my balls off for all 10 hours. Not that i'm against that, but every once in a while i go through a shift with just a few medical calls, it's not always constant.

I've been doing it for a little over 11 years, and i love it still.

Would be easier to guess if we knew the type of disability you have.

Yeah, does your FD roll only 911 or do they mess around with transfers/LDT as well? Got my fire cert once I realized EMS is literally the *** of the civil servant community, and I honestly get to do only the good parts in a FD, get paid better, have better benefits, and for some reason, women like bunker gear more than EMS uniforms. :|

PS: Real medics don't roll hose son!

(Which is why I still occasionally do. lol)

I need! Well, seeing as though I'm not out and about like I use to be, maybe I don't. I guess I'll just stick with renting them.

I'm seriously thinking of getting into Kayaking. I was in Australia about 9 years ago and I went Kayaking for a day, and I loved it.

It's so much fun, right?!? I love it! Especially in the ocean, but I'm not brave enough to go too far out. I always stay within eye-shot of the shore.

I love it. I'm in the Air Force. I get to travel around the world. My first duty station is currently Kore and then I get to go to Japan after this. Not many other jobs would be able to offer my that services since I don't have a college degree.

And I'm a signal analyst. So if I decide I don't want to do this later on, I can re-train. Love the options. It's good times.

I'm an ice cream sales rep. (AKA a vendor)

I sell in displays, and stock ice cream in stores. I work for Dreyers(Edys)/Haagen-Dazs/Nestle. I work about 60+hrs a week.

I essentially drive a truck that resembles a U-Haul, but full of frozen packaged ice cream. Take it to stores such as Target, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Wal-Mart and many independent markets. Go inside, see what they need on the shelves, go back to my truck and fill the shelves with what's missing.

My job isn't too bad, it gets physical, and i'm always rushing around. I need to do my job in a certain time limit, because well...if I don't, it melts.

My job use to be a lot better, but my company was purchased by Nestle a few years back, and it has just gone down the hole. It's become very corporate, and very strict. Also we hire complete morons for upper corporate. They've got no clue what they're doing and it makes our lives on the front lines a lot more difficult.
Even our "fun" is gone. We use to have holiday parties, BBQ's every sales quarter. Though, it's all gone now...

I use to like it, but now I want to go to college. It's just my personal life, and time at work are too demanding. I hardly play video games anymore :(

I love my job, I'm a graphics designer/sign maker. I started off small on ebay (of all places) selling vinyl decals of car logos and other things at £4.99 each and a year or so later it snowballed into me designing and fitting vehicle graphics for small business' and then into outside signage and shop fronts and it got so busy I couldn't keep up with the demand, and I didn't want to hire any help.

I started looking for work (to be employed by someone I mean) and the first company I came across hired me and I've been there ever since and never looked back, that was 6 years ago.

One of the benefits is that I design and fit so many menu boards and lightbox signs that I can pretty much go to any takeaway in the notheast of England and get an instant discount and in some cases not even pay a penny :)

Managed a few food service operations, have been a line cook at a few as well.

Currently waiting tables at 100+ beer on tap/french fusion restaurant, lovin' it.

Come into work with a buzz at 4pm and kitchen makes staff meal for everyone. Sit around bs-ing with other servers for 70% of shift. When I am working, I'm talking about beer/food which is fun for me.
Two free beers (at least lol) every shift worked for all staff members, also you "have" to sample some of the new beers throughout the day.
I get a free confit pork ribs with braised pork belly (omg dericious) tomorrow because i convinced a bunch of ppl to buy it today.
Love my gf dearly, but don't mind getting paid to talk to/flirt with hot girls.
I end up making more than I did as a manager/line cook with less responsibility/hard work. Also, its damn hot in the kitchen.

Been in food service my entire life and love talking about food/beer/wine. Making decent money, cant complain.

Edit: "I have been in food service for the majority of my life" would have been a better choice of words.

Our EMS and Fire divisions are currently merging. The EMS division does them still, but the fire division sub-contracts it out to a private ambulance service b/c it's not worth losing the ISO rating in our areas that transport from say, Kissimmee to Miami, or Gainsville FL.

As far as "Real Medics dont roll hose", that's what medics that get stuck on a rescue say when they wanna make themselves feel better about being suck doing the *** job of transporting, moveup/standby etc.

This is a firetrucks day v/s a rescue:

Rescue - Receive call, go to truck, drive 2-3 miles to the address of 911 call, talk to an OMG-Squad on the way to the front door, try to talk to the patient, but get answers from people who try to answer for the patient, try to ask them to stfu in a nice way so you can establish their demeanor, find out if they want to go to the hospital to get a different bed to lay in to recover from a cold, remind the OMG-squad that it's not their decision, that if you take the patient with out HIS permission, it's legally kidnapping, load the pt up, spike a bag, establish ALS, THEN you leave the scene and go en route to the hospital, get to the hospital and hold the wall waiting for a bed for 20-30 minutes, wait for the ER nurse so you can transfer care, restock and clean your truck, piss, start heading back to the station, stop for fuel, get another *** call, etc etc etc etc etc....Estimated turnaround time per call: *** 2 hours +

Fire Truck - Receive call, go to truck, drive 2-3 miles to the address of 911 call, help the EMT on the rescue unload the stretcher, run into the OMG-squad and kinda talk to them while the medic deals with the BS, LT. and Engineer get in the truck and chit chat while the FF helps the medic get an IV started, then the fire truck leaves and goes back to the station and eats cookies, takes naps, and rolls the hose you left out from training.

Estimated turnaround time per call: ehh, maybe 20 minutes.

I work(when needed) part time at a friends Ice cream shop. I've only had to help out a few times but I hated it lol. Scooping icecream for 5 hours gets boring.

I'm going to be moving soon and once I do I hope to get a job at a book store. I'd like a laid back place where I'm not surrounded by loud people all the time. But we shall see

my job doesn't really seem like a "job" in the traditional sense of the word. I work on/repair guitars (and sometimes other fretted instruments) But to supplement that, I'm usually found out playing with other local musicians in bars/cafes/events/parking lots/dark alleys.

I really can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing and I guess it's kinda working out, at least for now. so... until it breaks~
