I think pole grip is the one most often used. Sword strap causes problems with hit builds.

If you can maintain the proper 6-hit build, sword strap would be the best. Otherwise, just go with pole grip. If I'm not mistaken, 12 Store TP would be needed for sword, and 7 for pole.

Ugh.
The real answer is that without seeing the rest of your gearset, nobody can tell you what the best grip is.

Except Claymore beats Pole in certain situations.

ftfy.

Rose if you need the STP.
Sword if you have the STP to maintain your x-hit).
Claymore > Pole; unless your crit rate is capped.

I only use Uther's, Pole, and Rose grip, swapping them in depending on weapon types and in/outside abyssea. as stated above, it depends on your gear build and situation.

Uther's,
Regardless of the situation, this is not the right answer.

If you;re outside abyssea pretty sure Pole will beat claymore most of the time. Or with a subpar build inside abyssea.

NEVER ON WAR

Edit: The general consensus over grips for WAR is:

Sword (if you can maintain your X-Hit) > Pole/Rose/Claymore (depending on whether you are inside/outside Abyssea, can reach a lower X-Hit with 4Stp, have high Crit Rate or not) > Nothing Else

Claymore is currently the most common choice due to the current 6Hit build being generally better than 5Hit and Crit+3% more beneficial inside Abyssea (because of Atmas) than a 2% DA increase.

As long as you're using a crit based WS.
If DA was 0, and Crit rate was 0, claymore would be a 3% increase, and pole would be a 2% increase.(basically) Add af3+2 shoes into the mix, as well as those crit damage job traits WAR naturally gets, and claymore pulls ahead even more. But they both suffer from diminishing returns as you gain more and more of them, but seriously, as long as you're using a crit based WS, claymore wins til you hit like 90% crit rate.

Bahamut's zaghnal Even with this for procs? D:
Sword Strap turns a 6 hit into a 7 hit. The damage is so crappy claymore wouldn't really benefit it. Also pole grip might mess with things to a point. Though with native double attack/merits it might be a bad argument.

Personally I use claymore for Great Axe

Still no. Claymore is always better than pole at the 90 cap. Pole Grip is/was better at 75, and maybe even up until 85. But at 90, claymore is always better than pole.

Granted, I'm also assuming a well geared war; regardless of ukko's or raging rush, Claymore is still better.

504 delay gaxe users might want to look at sword strap though.

BZagh's hit distribution isn't strong enough to make DA detrimental. Could argue back and forth with acc vs DA but at the end of the day it's just for procs, doesn't really matter.
