Yes, although it tends to be the same inside jokes of users.

We do have a few that involve hilariously overwrought threats of legal action that we can't share in public.

FFXI already died for me, I just play different games now. Right now I'm on Forsaken World, Rift, and still have my WoW active.

I totally know who you're referring to I think. I remember someone saying they were going to sue this website... Actually I can remember 2 people saying that lol.

Accord to Jaerik, IIRC, they get legal threats about every week..

It's amazing, isn't it? I mean, it's not like we've taken anything of practical value away from them. And if their only goal is to spam, it's not like the community has lost anything via their non-consensual absence.

Then again, when I was a GM back on one of the original MMO's, circa 1998-2002, we had someone we banned actually drive to our offices in San Diego with a 12" knife and try to smash his way into the customer service offices, before the SDPD police showed up and dragged him away.

And that was just one example of many.

I haven't played since February. I play Rift right now.

Was your question more directed at what the site would do? The forums would be maintained as a part of the FFXIVPro site, so the community wouldn't have to worry about disappearing. The admins would probably find another project to attach to the family of sites, and put more dedication towards it.

tl;dr - I don't see the community itself going very far no matter the state of FFXI.

Yeah i still love ffxi but i'm under no illusion that its not scraping the bottom of thr barrel.

never heard of forsaken world but Rift looks nice,as in the game world and mobs and stuff,i like the look of the design but know nothing of the battle mechanics

I think it's more just about the principle of the thing.

Their egos are so fragile, they can't live with the feeling that they've somehow "lost," so they decide to up the ante to the point of dangerous absurdity.

None of the admins play anymore, and I think most of the moderators are on temporary or permanent haituses. haitii? haitussissu... whatever the plural of that is.

I picked up WoW with the advent of Cataclysm and have been having a really great time. They really did an excellent job. I flat-out refused to play this damn game for half a decade, but can clearly see why they're the 800lb gorilla on the block. It makes me happy I'm not trying to compete with them anymore.

A ton of my friends are on the Rift dev team, so I really need to give it a shot, but I'm a bit leery about trying to master two MMO's at once, given how insanely busy I've been with work recently.

I don't like to pull RL cards... But if you're that invested into something I really think it's best to take a step back and just think.

What outcome was he expecting? Did he think you'd all say "Oh my he's got a knife, REACTIVATE HIS ACCOUNT RIGHT NOW BARRY!"

In the small community I was a part of we had 2 Admins who were really good with managing the spam, one of them had his PC speakers on loud every night as he slept and MSN on with most of the community in his FL. As soon as anyone saw any mega spam on the forum he'd remove it within minutes.

But the one guy still persisted and said he was "Defeating the third Reich"

I mean all the community hated him too at that point for ruining the forums so even if he got unbanned he'd be unwelcome for the rest of his time there :/
