I can't seem to find the rules about conduct in forum or towards moderators can you point me to the link?
http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/21172/new-forum-rules

Ok thanks, one question if someone said a swear word to a moderator in pm e.g F**k off etc. Would they get highest ban? Or fall under the first/second/third warning etc rule?
I would imagine that's mostly up the discretion of the mod to judge the user's past..

Either way, if you cuss out a mod, I wouldn't expect to be posting for a while afterwards.

If nothing else, it's the easiest way to get on their bad side, and where they might be more lenient for an infraction, their tolerance/patients for you wouldn't be as great..
^ pretty much this.

It's more along the lines of how cooperative you are. Since the user is past the point of "reasoning things out" and has resorted to useless, insultory remarks instead of complying or at least trying to reason with the mod, then... pretty much, your chances of still remaining are pretty slim. If someone told me "f*** you" and all I did was shake my finger at him or her, that really wouldn't... seem right.

More for Scragg or Jaerik, but can it be possible to add missing crafting recipes (via member submission, or admin) to items that dont currently have them?

One I can think of off hand would be an Argent coat, and im sure theres plenty of more out there. It would be a big help for us crafters! ^^
We try not to apply a sort of "truth by wiki" format to our site. We let places like ffxyclopedia (either version) specialize in that.

Our site philosophy is precisely the opposite. Mainly, "untouched by human hands." If we can automatically collect / parse / scrape it, we put it up there. If a user (or even an admin) has to apply judgment to what should be empirical data, then we've failed.

If a recipe is wrong, well... I'm pretty sure admins or mods can correct it when reported. But it requires a manual verification process from our end.

The reason I ask for here is when trying to skill up, your recipes also show the current AH median price to make, ingredient costs, and a gain/loss on profits. I do understand your side of it though!

Obviously there's no way to fully block someone from the site. They can just go through a proxy, change their IP, etc.

But it's so easy for us to do. Just a single button click. Going and finding another proxy, routing all the 'net through there, figuring which lists are up to date and which aren't, etc, is not. At most, it's a few minutes of work, compared to half a second for us, and we have cross-records of IP's used to access accounts going back years. There's just no real way for someone to win that war of attrition, provided they actually have the determination and free time to even try.

If someone was to do that, would you get authorities involved?

Reason I ask is that years back I was on a different FF forum... and someone got banned and then decided to post porn from different proxies constantly... Long story short he got arrested for doing so. I was actually pretty shocked that such a thing could happen.

Believe so, I remember the admin of the website essentially told him to stop 3 or 4 times, after a few months he reported back that he had been arrested due to harassment. I'm still not sure If I believe them though.

Good question. Hasn't happened yet, so I don't know.

I used to be a GM for MMO's back when I was getting started in the industry 10-15 years ago, and it was notoriously difficult to get authorities involved unless you had a very clear, cut-and-dried example.

But I guess the more obstinate and persistent you are, the more cut-and-dried it becomes for them.

It probably could fall under some sort of hacking law. The person is deliberately circumventing security features designed to keep him out to access and alter site data.

Once you've had your login privs, PM privs, forum privs, item and player comment privs, image upload privs, etc all removed, there's really nothing you can do on the site anymore except read.

If someone's been so nasty that I personally don't even want them reading or using us anymore, then I'll put down a full IP ban on top. I.e., if you've damaged the site in some way and I don't even want you to have the benefit of using us for your in-game benefit anymore. But I do it knowing a persistent user will just get around it anyway. -- if it weren't so easy for us it wouldn't even be worth it.

There's no real policy on it. Just a judgment call on my part about how complete I want it to be once I've removed all the other permissions.

I read every PM I get. I reply to a majority of them. Sometimes I just want to think about it for a bit before replying. Other times I get sidetracked and forget to respond. At that time I was probably more focused on keeping track of the thread than responding to the PM. No offense was intended.
