I saw a few threads on meriting ninjutsu in category 1 and category 2.

At this time i have 5/5 subtle blow merited, 5/5 ninja expertise merited and 8/8 katana, and 5/5 critical damage.

I am not sure what to merit on the San magic. Also what to merit on the category 1. I would like to know what you guys merited and why.

Thank you.

Whatever you think looks nicest. They're all going to hit for the same damage bar Atma choice and/or target weakness/resistance.

I merited all san spells, just because I wanted to have the full set. It's probably better to put full merits in a spell that you'll use more often, ice or lightning, maybe, to take a page from the blms.

I think BLM covet thunder and ice magic so much because they're the strongest two elements; Not so for ninjutsu.

Honestly, unless you're building for ninjutsu specifically (equipment, Atma, SJ choice, food, temp. items, etc.), you're not going to get huge numbers, even with 5/5 X-effect and 5/5 :San merits.

I don't know about other nin's but for me personally I merited:
5/5 Subtle blow
5/5 Hyoton effect

5/5 Ninja Tools Expert
5/5 Hyoton: san
(I choose Hyoton because Tsurara are very cheap and easy to make)
and this is my current ele ninjitsu setup

Rictor's advice is pretty good.

However, you may want to play with them all before you decide which you favour. Try to drop one in everything, if you have spare merits buff one up a little. It's not like merit points are hard to come across so you can just play with them till you find the setup you're comfortable with.

Hyoton: San since ice is mostly powerful on most types of mobs.

5/5 Hyoton/Raiton effect
5/5 Hyoton/Raiton: San

Avg Ni nuke is 1.1k
Highest San nuke MB'd 7k

EDIT: Both Demon's Rings are MAB+3 & M.crit rate +2%
There is some new better nuke stuff from the last update, I just haven't got around to really picking it out for a new set.

If your going the route of 5/5 subtle blow and 5/5 Tool expertise, wouldn't it make more sense to do:

5/5 Huton Effect
5/5 Hyoton: San

Cast huton, then futea Hyoton:san?

Upbeats set is pretty superb for single nuke numbers but I've found it better usually just to use a mix of damage and haste to keep recast down. Different story if you have haste the spell and or marches but typically I just keep on twilight belt Iga legs and feet with mab sekka/yagentoshiro. Usually after doing the whole Ni wheel and 1 san you will only have to wait a couple seconds to repeat.

Definitely recommend doing 5/5 in one San and not splitting to get all of them. They have longer casting time and similar numbers to Ni with all the INT in abyssea when you only put 1 merit in them
