This was very controversial(lol) from what I remember way back when <,<. Thought it might make an interesting topic.

Whether it be RMT or real players. Casino's to me just equals epic fail. Even if your a real player, this just shows you would rather take someone elses then go and get your own. Ready...set... GO! Dang Saiya you musta been in jeuno lol? I saw a shout for one there last night... I had forgotten all about them. I remember way back when thats all you would see in jeuno, 2-3 different people shouting at the same time for them, all 3 making a shiton of money, lol. The good 'ol days.. Aren't they illegal and GM'able? Anyway, since you can't trust the casino to hold true to their own rules, if you have half a brain, stay the *** away. There's a fairly simple system to beat a basic black-jack casino, but knowing that they can change their mind and just cheat you out of all your gil at any time means you'd be stupid to bother. Go earn you gil a safer way.

You mean like a regular player-run casino?
They are common in WG on Ifrit, but the people are actually legit. People actually sit around and watch others bid. (usually near the warp taru/MH) Ifrit.Haseyo
Yeah, the shout ones.
Well, if they are GMable, this person has gotten away with it for a very long time. I guess people don't care since he doesn't run away with gil. He's filthy rich, so he doesn't mind losing, he just likes the art of gambling, lol. Bartimaeus said: They are GM'able. @Blazza - As far as scamming is concerned, they're not gonna make much money if they start stealing the bets O.o. I don't see a problem with them myself. It's like, something that's there if you want it. No tricks, scams or deceptions. If you're a betting person go for it, if not then don't? (As long as they don't uber spam their advert ¬¬:) Saw one the other day in Jeuno hadnt seen one in at least a year, I put down 15k and walked out with 45k in the end.
They have never bothered me, I doubt they are RMT, unless the shouter has put a heap of extra rules on it (casino auto wins if higher than 900 or lower than 100, which i have seen) then its fifty-fifty chance of winning or losing. Those game tables could be sooooo monopolised! You just had to be in cahoots with 2 other players, and wait for a 4th to join. I don't remember the actualy mechanics, but if the 3 team players kept in close contact they could ensure a win?

I blist casinos
I still see them from time to time in Whitegate. Past couple weeks have been more frequent tho.
I think the casino's themself are allowed, as long as they give you the gil/item they promised and don't spam their shouts. Just whenever they do start spamming their shouts i just turn my shout filter and run through WG in peace. wow you mean seraph is the only server thats had casino's nonstop for years? u lucky non-casino /sh-spam bastids lol they dont happen as much anymore, the main casino ppl we had just quit or jumped servers. my blist couldnt take anymore, it ruptured its spleen lol
I don't really mind them as long as they don't spam too badly. Usually in Lower Jeuno near the fountain is where you'll find them on Odin if there are any running at the time.
I had a friend who ran one for a few weeks back in 2007. He actually paid two Taru dancing girls and made decent gil running the whole things. Those were Taru dancing girls with outfits he provided and fireworks, too. The odds he gave were not super, but they were good enough to get people to play, which is what any Casino does in RL. Make the odds good enough to get people to line up to play, but tipped in your favor enough that barring an insane bad streak, you'll always come out ahead, then fire some fireworks off for your winners and comfort the losers. It was roleplaying at its best. Too bad there's not more Roleplaying going on in a RPG. He actually stopped running it after he cleaned a guy out pretty bad. It was funny at the time, but I think he felt bad about it later so he shut it down. The guy was basically gambling off his gear trying to win after he ran out of cash, to the point where he (a PLD 50 something main) had nothing left but a sword. I think my friend even made him an offer for the sword, too (LMAO). We were getting regular updates in LS chat and many of us warped to Jeuno to watch it in progress. i myself use to run a casino back in the day when i didnt farm and to tell you the truth idk why but i didnt make all that great of gil and but my friend on the other hand he made millions i dont mind them but will never play them i know my odds suck and would rather just farm
Wow this is rare for all of you, lucky you. On Bahamut just go to Lower Jeuno and you can't get them to shut up for 5 minutes. Always at least 3 Casinos being shouted at anytime. They almost drown out the tele shouts.
Casinos are as illegal as teleporting people for gil.
That said, Dracothic funds Dynamis, among a lot of other things, with his money. The stuff is pretty expensive, I've heard, so...in order to keep up with 2x weekly Dynamis, you have to find better ways to make money. It just so happens that he has made me broke multiple times >_<. Not sure how teleporting people for gil is "illegal" when it's basically a fee for services rendered. As long as it's not a RMT transaction, and the exchange is simply in-game gil for in-game services, I don't see the problem. Even if the teleporter is an RMT bot, the person paying for the services should not be culpable.
Just like someone who buys a bootleg T-Shirt from a concert, if the Police bust the vendor, the buyer is not held accountable to any degree more than that their purchase may be confiscated for evidence. At the core of the issue, it's no different than going to Valley of Sorrows and paying someone for an Adamantoise Egg that you didn't earn yourself. You're hiring a mercenary to do a job for you that you can't or won't do yourself. Just because the gil and services changing hands are different doesn't mean it's not the same thing. Casinos, however, are not rendering a definite service. They are giving you a chance to win some gil, against odds determined by the person running the casino. One could contend that the Casino operator is rendering a service by offering you those odds, and the entertainment value of playing your luck. In that line of thought, any losses you incur could be called a fee for services rendered (for entertainment) and any winnings could be considered additional value for your entertainment gil. Just food for thought... casinos and tele for gils arent illegal. otherwise theyd set a gm in every city with banstick-spam. people are gonna spend their gil how they seem fit. and casino's are in other final fantasy games too.
In the end it comes down to RMT. If this was just an ethical issue of gambling or something they would do away with the Chocobo Circuit (which I never see anyone in anyways).
Gil is Gil and Money is Money and as long as the two don't interchange, all is well. Minus the disappointment of losing. I personally just wish the casinos would find a less annoying place to shout then on top of the Lower Jeuno AH. You can /random anywhere, who cares about a table?
