This is really what got me here. GG Silent Hill. You freaked me the hell out in 8th grade and caught me off guard at what I thought at the time was a cliche part.
This was pretty freaky. I also can't believe that people aren't talking about that one Resident Evil scene with the dogs crashing through the windows O_O
That was scary.
A lot of other Silent Hill 1 things were scary too... although a lot of that fear comes from the subtle things. I remember that in the the town you would find some part of a dead carcass in someone's yard, and you're like "Where is the other part?"... and then later you find it >.>;
That Gray Fox scene in Metal Gear Solid scared the crap out of me the first time I played it (seeing the mutilated corpses in the hallway). And that boss battle in Metal Gear Solid 3 against "The End." It wasn't scary, but it was literally searching an entire freaking jungle for a sniper who is firing at you, not having any idea where the hell he is (without using cheap tactics). Not the traditional kind of scary but I think it's worth noting.
Resident Evil 2, Police station when the licker runs by the window and a zombie cop grabs your leg, I ***bricks irl
For me in that game, it's when you're running on the second floor balcony of the police station and the tyrant grabs the railing from below and jumps up... I saw this when I was like 12 years old lol... Scared the hell out of me.
Majora's Mask scared me as well with the impending moon coming down in a short period of time. It stressed me out that I never actually did complete the game.
Plus the soundtrack to Song of Healing is pretty eerie, which doesn't help matters XD
Playing Borderlands last night and took Sledge's double shot gun to my face, took all my shields and left me at 1 health running like a man in an expensive tux from a Hibachi grill "NOT THE FACE!!"
The good thing about that R.E scene though was for us oldschool fans of the game. You see, they added in some...fun things for the REmake on the gamecube.
You'll know what I mean if you played the original PS1 game and then the GC version years ago.
I'd also like to add that I think REmake is the best RE available, both atmospherically as well as capturing entirely what made RE so great.
Resident evil 1. when i first played it i didnt really know what it was. Then some zombie dogs burst thru some stainglass windows and started biting my legs off. I didnt know you could shoot down so i was just shooting over there heads and freaking out. Then later some giant plant looked like it came from little shop of horrors burst tentacles thru a wall.

If I set my button tones to "Glossy" and type 764 764 76323 in correct timing, it sounds JUST like the song of healing.
Okay folks, it's time to put on your nostalgia hats and recap moments in your video gaming career that legitimately frightened you.
And I'm not talking about being startled by having a zombie jump out of nowhere and bite you in the neck. I mean something that gave you a lingering sense of dread and terror educing anticipation.
For me, I remember getting to the very end of Earthbound and having the ambiance in combination to how complex and disturbing the concept of which the final boss epitomized, it truly scared me for being roughly 8 years old. Even at nearly age 24, it leaves me in a rather unsettling disposition.
Those trumpets... You don't know whether to feel triumphant or nervous of what has yet to come.
The fact that it's the only instrument played, followed by an eerie echo and silence is indeed unsettling.
Upon entering a plane of existence that mortals alone cannot cross, your characters must enter as robots. Only then will you be able to traverse across what perfectly symbolizes Purgatory to reach the cosmic destroyer and corrupter known as Giygas
Giygas, a creature so terrifying and evil that it devours it's own mind out of its will to consume all life and space therein. Mocking you by mirroring your character's likeness in appearance. Then showing its true form as what appears to be a twisted and terrifying face of a beast or alien, or even a human fetus depending on your perspective viewing. Followed by wails of agony and how much it relishes it, while simultaneously devouring light along with your hope and prayers.
