Carbuncle.Anesthesia said: »and i was simply saying dont worry about what others lift
I'm not sure how much plainer I can be here. I don't care what either of you lift. I said that at moderately heavy/heavy weights, straps/belts are acceptable. If someone has never lifted these weights, it will affect their advice regarding straps and belts.
I repeat. Other than the very specific context of that isolated issue, I can't be less worried than I am about what any of you lift. Did I communicate effectively enough this time?
^ please tell me where i say care what others lift - and yes ofc straps are common sense ( you would think)

Then backread the thread and see why I brought the subject up in the first place. I assure you it was not for an e-peen contest.
I never said you cared what others lifted. I explained why amounts lifted were relevant to my prior advice. I have no idea how you got that out of my post.

@quin the only competition for me at the gym ..............................is me! what other people can or cant do has no impact on improving MY body so dont worry. and i respect ANYONE who takes up the challenge to test and improve them self - and puts in REAL EFFORT
the only time i even find myself looking at anyone else is when they have ***form or they lift so low they can read a book same time or talk to person stood next to them - and then they wonder why they getting no gains xd

wow and this thread is suppose to be helpfuL?
I have read through pages and pages here. Not sure most information comes out helpful or more so either fanboyism or big *** contest. You have to really read through a lot of mess before coming across helpful information.
I find more viable information here. Good luck in all you do.

i like this thread (generally)as it shows just because you playing video games it does not mean you don't care about your own health and well being - and i think its a healthy thing to share within this community space - yes we get some ***in this thread what threads don't
But i find most questions get some good and varied responses back - eventually

Anyone have any tips around working around imbalance?
My left arm starts up a bit higher than my right
and makes a number of upper body movements clunky/awkward
What do you mean? It's stronger?
Nvm, cant view pic from here. Will look at it later.

I mean, awkward/weird to perform.
Like bench press, for example, with a full lock in both arms, the bar is still slanted.
Upright rows, I try to go up to my chin. One arm always hits earlier than the other, etc.
There's some strength imbalance, of course, since diff ranges of motions/slightly diff positions, but not really concerned about that more than the movements themselves

How slanted? If it bothers you that much just switch to DB's.

Noticeably slanted, and I use dumbbells as my primary movement for bench press, but still like having variety, so I use barbell as a secondary movement. It's not something I want to eliminate all together.
Even with dumbbells though, the range of motion is diff between the two arms (though just doesn't feel as awkward since the 2 dumbbells aren't connected).

That's weird I dunno. Umm when you balance that slant and bring it to your chest is there any pain or just it feels weird?
They kinda talk about it here in the end one guy just says suck it up lol
Different arm length, bench problem...

What part of your arm? Short of something like ulna shortening surgery, I think you might just have to deal with it. Both arms fully locked with the bar slanted is still better than keeping the bar straight while compromising the form/function of the lift. The one thing I can think of that would help alleviate the issue would be a switch to single handed cables or dumbells for affected lifts. Though I'm not sure off the top of my head what might be good for lats - I could see that as being a hindrance.

Throws my rhythm off from time to time.
I'm good on lats. I only do diff variations of pull ups and muscle ups for those, with weight added(one day soon for muscle ups!).

Yea, if your form is good you probably won't notice any pain unless there is something wrong with one of your arms (outside of one being longer, or one being shorter, however you look at it). The most common problem I see when people bench is (well 2 things) 1. Not bringing the bar down to your chest, and 2. fraying out your arms. 1. may not cause any pain persay, but it is bad form. 2. can cause serious pain in your shoulders and/or elbows, but as long as it isn't causing a form problem I really wouldn't worry about it outside of being self-conscious about it (I know I probably would be). When you think about it though, a lot have people have a few kinks here and there, one arm/leg longer/stronger than the other, poor/damaged cartilage in one or more joints (my problem), problems stemming from previous injuries, etc. If you can look past them and compensate with good form it will help cope with the issue and not exacerbate the issue.

I find it odd how many young men focus on lifting amounts of weight that ultimately place their bodies in adverse conditions. Yet fail to discuss much the importance of flexibility, endurance, proper diet, water intake, and keeping chemicals (including those in food) out of your system for optimal body performance. Lots of what we used to call "meat heads" in their 40s now have knee, back, shoulder issues. where as most endurance trainers I know as we still jog and bike are much better fit. Quote: That's what 200 miles of biking and Fossil Park obstacle course 3x a week are for brah!
This ^^ very much!
Kinda wanted to touch on @Arziet point particularly the bold.
I'm not sure which bodybuilders/gym peops you are referring to, however, warm-up, stretching, and/or cardio are usually a part of most exercise regimes.
Most integrate cardio, to some degree whether it be HIIT etc... Also you're building endurance depending how you lift the weights/rest time. So endurance is always there.
Also many, not all, body builders out there have "immaculate diets." The few that I know have some of the healthiest body stats: BF%, HDL/LDL, blood pressure etc.
Additionally, I don't think you're giving the lymphatic, respiratory, urinary, and excretory systems enough credit. Human's have these waste removal systems for a reason. Proper water is always there for most gym-goers. Most organic foods are complete wastes of money, minus probably dairy products.
Obsessing over preservatives and "chemicals" in food, I'm sorry, just perpetuates this American hypochondriac mentality that is just unnecessary.

I lol at people who waste their money on organic ***, talk ***about the way I eat, and are in worse condition than me in (nearly, if not, every) parameter
on another note, I absolutely used to despise jogging/running. Have since I was a kid, and even back when I decided it was important that I do non-biking cardio (since my legs will give out long before my cardio does on the bike since I'm just so used to it, even keeping a high pace).
After doing Fossil Park for over half a year, I started running again 2-3x a week, about 3 weeks ago. Granted, it's not my favorite thing to do, I don't mind it anymore.
For Fossil, I keep a slow enough jogging pace to have oxygen when I get to all of the stations in the obstacle course.
So the purpose of the running, instead of jogging a steady pace for 3-5 miles. I just go 1.2-1.5 miles, and hit it at the most intense pace I can keep throughout the entire run and keep that consistent pace. It's pretty challenging and I guess "fun" lol

Even if I'm injured, like when I twisted my ankle at Fossil Park, I still had the urge to go again the next day, even if I had to go at a slower pace. Took everything I had to stay home that day; and when night time came up, I found myself back at Fossil, lol

You do eat like ***, you just have better genes than most people.
Don't try to make being an outlier an example of a better path.

To be fair, I don't think it's quite as bad as he makes it out to be
If anything, he probably has higher than average LDL, but his activity probably has much more to do with the offset than genetics

Yeah I know. I was going to touch on it yesterday, but had time to do it today.
The human body is a marvel at removing waste products. All internal medicine specialists I've spoken to all usually reply the same when it comes to organic food products:
Quote: sure if you want to, it doesn't really make a difference
I forgive you for being a fatty, Tiger
I forgive you. I just had some Papa Johns will you forgive me? I even dipped it in the butter sauce! DROOL!!!

I'm sorry, I laughed at the fail benching video :x
I did notice you don't seem perfectly straight on the bench? Favoring your left side, it looks like. I assume that's in attempt to compensate for the imbalance.

It's actually because my arms aren't the same length (subject of the previous pages); and the point of doing it with just the bar, to show that the weight wasn't the issue

Like I imagine if it's becoming a problem with the amount you can lift, switch to the smith machine? Or is that harder because it forces you to have the bar even?

It's not a problem perse with the bench. It doesn't really affect the lift other than feeling weird and people thinking I'm about to kill myself and running over whenever they're watching me bench with heavy weight.
Makes my upright rows difficult at times though, or rather just feel really clunky/awkward.
This thread is basically for discussing workouts and dietary intake for people who are trying to or looking to getting into better shape or eating healthier in general.
Any and all questions regarding either of the two can be asked and hopefully answered here as well.
