The problem is currently. 95% of merits are the same for all people.

You want THIS AND THIS AND THAT, merits to be the best.
Same goes for all other jobs. So inturn there are some useful merit ideas that aren't ever taken passed 1 upgrade because the others are more useful. So we are almost all the same anyways.

I kinda wish they could enhance the merit system in a way where, yes you would still be limited to picking a choosing where to put your merit points in, however it would be job type specific...
so then for each job type you could customize it, but maybe limit it to say 2 or 4 merit books that you can upload for each job, that way if you are running a DD, you could upload a DD merit book.. then the same would go for if you are running a mage the next time.. that way your mage isnt stuck with like str and dex merits, when you really need mnd and int.

Cool, I can finally use merits again. I've been either 10/10 or 20/20 since abyssea came out..well besides LB stuff.
It's about time..with so many ppl having so many jobs this was needed along time ago. Wonder when they will just drop the cap all together.

For categories like combat skill or attributtes, those merit shows what job you're focusing on. So player focusing on BLM(but have WAR leveled) and player focusing on WAR their attribute will be different with merit. If we can cap all merit with no limit, then there's no point for the whole merit point system since no matter what job you level you'll have 5/5 attribute for everything and 8/8 for every skill. You'll gonna see every player all the same, wearing same gear(since gears are easy to obtain now) and running around in same combat skill/attribute. I honestly don't want to see that happening.

To that respect, (everyone running around in the same gear etc..) Should add dyes to the game, outside of specific dyable gear would be a nice addition, be able to make any gear look a little different than everyone elses... Capes would be kinda cool too, would change with the back gear you wear of course, but maybe you could put on some kinda emblem...
anyway back to merit talk..
i really wonder how they are going to either refine or introduce a totally new system into the game. i hope they dont do it right at 99, but maybe do one part of it at 95 than another part of it at 99

idk..I think uncapping the merits would allow ppl who really love one particular job to go hard with it. Take rng for example...if a person really loved that job why not give them the opportunity to keep raising their abilities to be the best they want to be....lvl 45 combat skill in archery/marksmanship...why not? As for the AH being borked I dont see how that would affect it.

Magic evasion
Magic defense bonus
8 Seperate Elemental resist
Or in it's own categories
Haste (Natural) = 1% each upgrade 0/5
Subtle blow = 2 each upgrade 0/5
Movement speed = 1% each upgrade 0/5
Store Tp = +1 each upgrade 0/5

Yep. I've seen the error of my ways.
We've never been without atmas and we'll never be without atmas. I'm dropping all my +1 and +2 AF3 when I get home, and I'm selling off all my nuking and enfeebling gear. I shall gear my mages solely with NQ staves, Refresh gear, and MP gear.
Anything else is just silly.
Pretty much. Good BLM gear doesn't help you proc any sooner. And If your strategy is hope and pray that one day that BLM damage matters again, That didn't work out so good for my 'Magic Burst' gear that I worked so hard to collect and maintain. I'm still waiting for the day SE makes skill-chaining worthwhile again.
Going naked with Allur, MM and Apoc is really all you need for BLM now-a-days.

All jobs to have store TP merits? I really think that should be exclusively for SAM really.
Other jobs can get away with a lot of 5 hit possibilities. Store TP however, plays the role of native job trait *only& to SAM.
I think it's fair if it remains for SAM only!
I dont think 5/5 stp merits(so an extra 5 stp) on all jobs would really hurt sam that much...considering SAM would also be able to cash in on the extra 5 stp.

Heh SE needs to add Haste merits to all jobs ! 100 merits per +1%, then 200 merits for the next, etc up to 500 merits for +5% haste

I don't see how, to be honest. imo it's nice to have on hand when you're expecting resists on certain NMs, even with potency gear.

If were allowed the options I mentioned, it would allow for way more prime gear set-ups then our jobs have already. Reaches Haste cap? Merit 5/5 haste, and take that PoS Perle gear off. Want to replace that Mekki Shakki? Merit store TP 5/5 and done. Nm Has 12% movement speed and so do you? Heres a lil extra 5%. That's kind of the point. It won't exactly break SAMs job. It will just offer us more choices

The upcoming version update will see an increase to maximum limit for point allocation in certain merit point categories.
Maximum Total Ability Increase by Category
HP/MP: Increased from 8 to 12
Attributes: Increased from 5 to 8
Combat Skills: Increased from 20 to 32
Magic Skills: Increased from 16 to 24
Others: Increased from 8 to 10
Maximum Number of Upgrades by Ability
HP/MP: Increased from 8 to 12
Attributes: Increased from 5 to 8
Others: Increased from 4 to 5
