Anyway, currency isn't going to plummet in price. Every time they've increased the availability of currency prices actually rose due to a greater increase in demand, eventually settling back as they were or slightly higher. I foresee a lot of people trying to obtain a relic after this update and SE said they'd be adjusting currency droprates to more or less maintain the current influx iirc so don't hold your breath for prices to plummet.

As for having a shell to fund you a relic, well... if you can actually find people who are willing to get you a relic for basically nothing then I'd imagine you're well on your way already. I don't know how long it'd take, probably no more than a couple months if you spammed cities.

Honestly, even if they adjust (lower) droprates on currency, the influx into Dynamis will be so great, the prices will stay the same, if not plummet (specifically bynes, and possibly coins). Remember it's going from a 3 day event to a once-a-day event with TE revisions (ala Abyssea most likely). That's a ton of potential time in Dynamis.
I've heard so many people talking about making a relic after the update that I expect demand to match supply. If not for that I could definitely see prices plummeting. Also, would've expected prices to fall already from relics being outclassed but they've stayed constant here iirc.

Its like Warlace said. Make a goal of gil per week or so. If you truly want a relic weapon you will make that quota. I've made 2 relic weapons, first one took about a year, second one took 7 months. Both out of pocket.

Not ragging on other people, but seriously people who have been working on a relic for years and have only amounted to stage 3 or half way to 4 etc. they just don't want the relic bad enough to meet higher quotas of gil/week.

Press Release (Mar 21,2011)
Implementation Plan of Rolling Blackouts on and after March 22, 2011

Due to the power supply-demand balance, TEPCO has been implementing
rolling blackout since Monday, March 14. We sincerely regret causing
anxiety and inconvenience to our customers and the society. We
appreciate your cooperation in conserving electricity consumption.
For customers who will be subject to rolling blackouts, please be
prepared for the announced blackout periods. Also, for the customers
who are not subject to blackouts, we would appreciate your continuous
cooperation in reducing electricity usage by turning off unnecessary
lightings and electrical appliances.
We would like to inform the implementation plan of rolling blackouts
on and after March 22, 2011 as follows.

○Implementation plan of rolling blackout on March 22 (Tue)
Considering today's electricity supply-demand and tomorrow's weather,
regional group and time periods for the planned blackout are as
follows.

Group 5 6:20-10:00
···Rolling blackout will not be implemented

Group 1 9:20-13:00
Group 2 12:20-16:00
Group 3 15:20-19:00
Group 4 18:20-22:00
···Rolling blackout will be implemented.

Group 5 13:50-17:30
Group 1 16:50-20:30
···The necessity of the rolling blackouts will
be judged depending on the supply-demand
balance and will be informed 2 hours before
the start of blackouts.

●The actual blackout period for each group is planned to be maximum
about 3 hours during the relevant scheduled time period.
●Starting and ending time of blackout periods may slightly differ.
●Depending on the supply-demand balance of the day, planned blackouts
may not be carried out. In case the electricity supply-demand balance
becomes tighter than expected, we will reconsider the rolling blackout
plan and inform you accordingly before we implement the revised plan.
●A blackout may occur in the adjacent areas where the planned blackouts
are carried out.

○Implementation plan of rolling blackouts from Wednesday, March 23 to
Monday, March 28
Please refer to the "exhibit" for detailed plan.
●The actual blackout period for each group is planned to be maximum
about 3 hours during the relevant scheduled time period.
●Starting and ending time of blackout periods will slightly differ
day by day.
●Depending on the supply-demand balance hereafter, planned blackouts
may not be carried out. Moreover, in case the electricity supply-demand
balance becomes tighter than expected, we will reconsider the rolling
blackout plan and inform you accordingly before we implement the revised
plan.
●A blackout may occur in the adjacent areas where the planned
blackouts are carried out.

[Others]
●In order to prevent fires, please make sure to switch off electric
appliances such as hair driers when you leaving home.
●Please carefully pay attention to the traffic at the crossings in
case the traffic lights are suddenly turned off.

[Improvement in implementing planned blackouts]
●In principle, we will implement the planned blackouts based on the
current manner. However, we do realize that there is room for
improvement. Therefore, we will continue to consider and improve
implementation manners from the customers' point of view.

Ahh indeed, it will be server dependent (currently, on my server prices have risen on all currency, due to huge lack of interest in Dynamis; JP majority server). However, the way SE worded these Dynamis changes, everyone should expect the unexpected. Even the NMs will be revised, quite possibly to match Abyssea standards-- they may (or may not) drop 100s post update.

To be honest, I will continue to say I have faith in this new generation of devs; they've probably looked at the extremely easy acquisition of Emps, and will match that with unexpected Relic/Mythic currency changes.

As for the topic, SE has been making everything much easier for the average ffxi player, so I doubt currency will sky-rocket in prices, or I hope it won't.

Exactly, and look out for people who consistently sell from LS that do weekly runs (this has become extremely rare recently). Getting good prices like 10k bronze etc helps speed the process up considerably.
