Japan Earthquake/Tsunami
Pandemonium.Spicyryan said: Cerberus.Liandaru said: Asura.Silvaria said: Wow, jumping in here really late, but...are there seriously people who are saying Japan got what it deserved because it's not a Christian nation?? I mean, SERIOUSLY??? *Headdesks repeatedly* Yeah, that and Pearl Harbor. Refer to this thread on what that got someone: Yeah, I think it is time for me to throw in that "everyone should just die" like about now. That might be appropriate. Even if there were a meltdown, they've done a good enough job evacuating right? At least from what I'm understanding, it's not going to be large-scale destruction and death? Some guy I was listening to on the news said the radioactive materials would dissipate rather quickly. he kind of blew off the whole thing like everything was hunky dory.
BBCBreaking at Twitter said: 0349: CNN presenter Piers Morgan tweets: "Nuclear expert Bill Nye just said situation at Japan plants sounds 'way more serious' than authorities saying. Deeply worrying. BBCBreaking at Twitter said: 0352: The news coming from Japan remains bleak. Government spokesman Yukio Edano: "We do believe that there is a possibility that meltdown has occurred - it is inside the reactor, we can't see. However, we are acting, assuming that a meltdown has occurred and with reactor number 3 we are also assuming the possibility of a meltdown as we carry out measures." "Occurred"? Past-tense? And no new explosion? Might we be through the worst of it? Edit: OK really going on break now. Here's the BBC feed again. Bill Nye the Science guy!
Yeah I saw that and I was like huhhhhhh. I always thought he was just an actor.
Quote: 0406: More on the specific dangers of Fukushima 1 plant's reactor 3: The BBC's Chris Hogg in Toky says the reactor is fuelled with uranium and plutonium, meaning the consequences of a meltdown are much more severe than at the other reactors. Cerberus.Liandaru said: Asura.Silvaria said: Wow, jumping in here really late, but...are there seriously people who are saying Japan got what it deserved because it's not a Christian nation?? I mean, SERIOUSLY??? *Headdesks repeatedly* Friend of mine on FB posted this, and I wanted to share. Not sure of the original source.. Quote: So for fun I ran some simple numbers. At Pearl Harbor in 1942, there where 2,402 deaths as the result of Japanese bombings. After that, America engaged strategic bombings of various Japanese cities. 6 months before the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, the military switched to firebombing resulting in catastrophic damage of of 67 Japanese cities. There where, at minimum, 330,000 recorded Japanese deaths. After the atomic bombings, at least 150,000 people where killed in the first four months following, and two cities decimated. That's a total of 480,000 people killed in the three year wake of Pearl Harbor. If you're one of thous hostile eye for an eye people, this means that (at least) 199.83 Japanese people died per every American that died at Pearl Harbor. Many of whom, suffered in agony for months before they passed. Their government, and the Axis of Evil struck America a devastating blow, and we retaliated in kind, 200%. Yes, karma is a ***, and we've all pay in various ways for what we do. The events occurring in Japan now aren't the result of past or future actions. They aren't something that could have been stopped by a vote, or by people in suits sitting in fancy buildings. They are unfortunate events, that have befallen people with no control over them who need help. Just like Haiti, these people are losing family members to something they could not prepare for, even in the back of your minds, as might happen during war. Unlike Haiti, the Japanese government is well funded, and has on sight man power to control the damage and help their civilians. But they are still human all human beings. So be mindful of that before you go spewing hate speech about Karma, a philosophy that isn't even being used correctly in this context, and telling people that they deserve it. Cause nobody deserves to know that a love one has drowned, or been crushed under rubble. Thank you for reading. TL;DR: 480,000(minimum number of people who died in Japan during WWII) divided by 2,402(the number of people killed at Pearl Harbor) equals 199.83 the number of people who died in response for every person who died at Pearl Harbor. . Quote: 0411: Shaun Bernie, from lobby group Greenpeace, tells the BBC that using plutonium as fuel increases the risk that something could go wrong because plutonium-fuelled plants operate at a higher level. He also says plutonium is far more dangerous if it's released into the environment. Quote: 0419: Possible fusion in two reactors - AFP, quoting government i thought bill nye died...

TheOnion got you. hahahaha Fusion = bad juju?
Cerberus.Liandaru said: Fusion = bad juju? Uh fusion? These are fission reactors. I'm hoping that was a typo and someone in the JP government didn't actually tell that to the AFP and think they were making any sense.
