Let's not have a WW2 / nuclear bomb debate in this thread. I'm happy to have it elsewhere, but let's keep this one on-topic for now.
Sorry man, my topic was how bad the radiation could be if a reactor blew god forbid.

Quote: 1938: More on the effects of the quake around the world: In Peru, the mayor of the town of Pisco says tsunami waves destroyed about 300 houses as they swept into the town square - about 400 people spent the night in tents So, I picked this up from 4chan (no not one of the insert funny caption on japan here)

http://i56.tinypic.com/2wdrrdv.png I can't believe some of these people they still can't let that grudge go... there's many good people over in Japan and Japan is one of our close allies now. Is this one thread on Facebook or a bunch?
It's a lot. Go to openbook.org and search keyword pearl harbor. Will pull up all the public profiles that have used that word in their status today. dozens

Is this one thread on Facebook or a bunch? It's not even a grudge, it's just mental retardation. A Grudge implies wronged in some way, and I don't see any World War II veterans/widows/ect saying ***like this on facebook. Quote: 2039: Ian Hore-Lacy of the World Nuclear Association told the BBC he believes the situation at the nuclear power plant - where sea water is being used to cool the reactor core - is under control: "The point is that the heat, decay heat from the fuel drops off very rapidly. So after an hour, an hour following the shut down, it's down to about 2 or 3% I think. And after 24 hours it's down to half a per cent. So the amount of heat you've got to cope with right now is a small fraction of what there was initially." [quote2042: Reuters: The IAEA says it has been told by Japan that 140,000 people have been evacuated from areas around two nuclear plants][/quote]
Has it been determined what the cause of that explosion was yet?
I saw a couple that said that they had lost some relatives in pearl harbor but I agree.
Edit: dropping this here and leaving the rest to the disaster discussion. Odin.Zicdeh said: Has it been determined what the cause of that explosion was yet? Is this one thread on Facebook or a bunch? It is amazing how anyone can think after dropping two nuclear bombs on Japan that mentioning Pearl Harbor after such a terrible natural disaster is even justified in anyway. I mean I would say two bombs like that on a country > a battle, but hey that is just me.. Those who suffered because of earthquake are just citizens, they have nothing to do with pearl harbor, politics and war. So no, they don't deserve this in anyway. Quote: 2145: Reuters: The number of people exposed to radiation near Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant could reach 160, an official from the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has said. Nine people have shown signs of possible exposure Quote: 2212: Some clarification: It is the number three reactor at the Fukushima No. 1 plant where officials have just announced that the cooling system has failed. This morning's blast took place at the number one reactor at the same plant. "All the functions to keep cooling water levels in No. 3 reactor have failed at the Fukushima No. 1 plant," a spokesman for the operator said. Or are they charging seawater directly into the system? To say that the decay heat is only 2 or 3% is misleading at best. If he's talking about equivalent power, Rx power is exponential so half a percent is still incredibly significant. |
