Im not too put off by the ending tbh, it had some sense of realism. USUALLY someone wins, or at least survives - which is what happened. In the end, all but 2 of the involved parties were wiped out, and there really were a lot of groups involved - L, melo, executives, etc etc.
how does usually someone win in realism?
we all die in the end, so i can't really equate that lol.

You cant really apply 'winning' and 'losing' to 'dying in the end', death is an absolute, the only 'win/lost' situation is when someone either dies or avoids dying by the hand of another mortal.
so a big shinigami battle(just one on-the-spot made up premise) ending in the worlds demise really wouldn't be a better ending over "good guys win in the end" ending?
meh.

Watched Code Geass a week ago or so. Then decided to venture out and watch a new one. Elfen Lied... Sickening first couple of episodes, scary even. Watched the rest of it and it actually smoothed out. If you're into that kind of thing, should check it out.

so?
they're shinigami and the creators of death note have creative license.
it's not like it can't happen that way.
have you ever watched a movie where everyone dies?
or have you ever heard about "the revelations"...all that ***.
saying it's implausible because they're "lazy, not stupid" isn't really much of a justifiable answer.
sure you can say ryuk is lazy, but we didn't really go into the shinigami world that much in the manga or anime to make such an assumption based on only a few shinigami characters(your lazy remark fits mainly ryuk IMO)

but i digress.
i doubt you'll agree with any of my opinions/ideas with it with the attitude you've represented, since anything that doesn't go with the way you want is "shallow"(trigun)

death note is quite a bit more shallow than anything else though lol.

Dunno if its been suggested yet or not, but I recommend watching Koi Kaze (link is to anidb).

Its a short story about an incestuous relationship and some of the real life taboos and emotional goings on associated with it. No nudity or even much for hinting at sexuality involved but its a good story with actual plot that I found enjoyable.

Usually in the manga, death gods are seen gambling or lazing about. There was also a comment that 'if a shinigami starts writing names all the time, the others will tell him that hes trying too hard'. As the writing of names in the notebooks, and subsequent killing of humans can be considered the shinigami's jobs, this is LAZY. Death note has enough plot twists and detail, as well as well thought out characters, to excape being called 'shallow'.

Trigun, vash = blonde (foreigner cliche), has very little notable character development, ticks all the 'hard past' cliche boxes, and simply, look in most shonen battle manga and you find a similar character. The girls are all shallow and without notable development once again.

In answer to you're slight, i cant get enjoyment off weak plots, and as such, my 'attitude' is one that desires strong, uncertain and less guessable plot lines.

Basquash!!

and that's pretty much it I can offer to watch that's done

Now, for anime coming out this season, I suggest Toriko, Deadman Wonderland, and... and think that's it.

:D
Funny death note ain't in there isn't it lolol.
but thanks for the link, there are a few stragglers here and there that i need to check out.
i've watched all of the classics.
I need to check out Abenobashi and the Girl Who Jumped Through time.
some of the popular ones don't interest me but i've seen most of em past the girly girly kinds.
i'll have to take a look at kanji though.
stylish i haven't seen all of them, but i've sampled a few of them that i couldn't get into(kemonozume for example...couldn't really get hooked into the art style)

so i'd say out of that one i've seen about half.

the hidden gems..i've seen all cept the baseball one and birdy decode.

pretty good lists...but the *chans usually do have some good recommendations.
i am surprised escaflowne didn't make it in the classic list though.
and one like sci-fi harry and ***.

Another notable absence is "grave of the fireflys"
As is "samurai champloo".

A notable inclusion that really doesnt deserve it is "shigofumi".

So yes, i wouldnt call that an accurate depiction of 'good animes'.

hey i have grave of fireflies on dvd!
but your interpretation of what is a good anime compared to what a bad anime would be is a bit flawed IMO.
just because it has what you consider to be a "shallow" plot doesn't really discredit it.
pretension only goes so far.
