Obama also needs to do some big stuff before 2012 elections due to him failing to live up to what he promised.

Oh look. Here we are.
Im surprised people were expecting him to achieve anything.

I wasnt. I get to be one of the "I told you so" people.
Honestly it was either him or McCain/Palin. Lesser of the two evils. That's all elections are now-a-days. I'm starting to think that I should just say "*** voting" and not vote until I see a guy worthy of my precious vote.
Or just vote for Micky Mouse.

See... Looking at what obama has done...how much worse could mccain and palin really have been? On the giant scale of *** up that obama has achieved, the worst they could have done is matched him.

The New Testament is actually pretty gay-friendly. I'm an atheist, so it's all rather irrelevant to me, but it pains me to see Christians quoting Old Testament passages and not having any clue how Jesus' preaching was supposed to be a deliberate departure from Old Testament values.

According to the bible, marriage is to be between a man and women. I would love to see scripture in Christ's words (red letters, w/e) that gay marriage is feasable. In today's world if someone decides to be gay and marry then true Christians shouldn't judge them, even if they believe it is wrong, and if they do then shame on them. All sin is equal in the eyes of God so being gay is no bigger sin than murder or stealing.

marriage predates the bible, so *** the bible.

How much worse can you get? Name one good thing that obama has done. And by good, i mean good for at least 75% of the people it affects.

Its your choice whether you follow the bible or not.
I find that Wombat already replied to this much more eloquently earlier in the conversation in regards to what the bible say.
In regards to what Jet says, might as well give up on him.
He can only hear his on voice when it comes to these things.

I'm really not sure which letter you're talking about. I'd have to see these passages to believe it. There are also translation issues to consider: several English editions of the bible, including the King James, mistranslate the original Greek words for concepts like sexual sin into things like our modern word "sodomy." (The Greeks were famously quite OK with sodomy and didn't consider it unnatural at all, so it makes little sense to add this modern baggage to their terms.)

I'm truly and honesty unaware of anywhere in the New Testament that condemns homosexuality the way the Old Testament does.
I'm referring to I Corinthians 6:9. I have three versions on hand:
ASV
NRSV
KJV
I'm much better with Hebrew than I am with Greek, but most scholars I'm acquainted with argue that the two Greek words that form the final two items listed here, combine to form an idiom which refers to both those who give and receive in homosexual sex. Though, I'm sure there are people who would disagree.

Paul (the author of I Corinthians), despite being a Roman citizen, was a Jew. He wrote in Greek, but many Jews had a strong distaste for Greco-Roman culture--especially their sexual practices.

No that's OK, you've served as a wonderful example here as to exactly why this issue should not be decided by majority vote, but instead come down to the courts. Apparently you not only believe that gay marriage is a sacrilege on par with having sex in church, you think that, in order to accommodate this belief, our very system of government should be thrown out in favor of something closer to that of Iran.

I mean, really, now, it's just beyond the pal.

Straw man here maybe? I dont care for starr and dont care to defend their ideas but it is very hypocritical to attack an idea you dont agree with while defending another idea from attack for the same reason.

It doesnt matter how much people *** and moan there is no such thing as Shangri-La. People must compromise. If you can't see this you are part of the problem and not the solution. Its not about proving whos right and whos wrong its about making all our lives better.

...Starr just literally suggested that we turn this country (no, the whole world) into a Christian theocracy, and you want me to compromise with them or I'm a hypocrite? Le whut? How does that work and how on earth am I supposed to compromise with that? Where do you even begin?

No, the way you make people's lives better, here, is to utterly remove those like Starr from positions of power: you do not hold votes on this issue, you have the courts decide it. It's precisely beliefs like this, manifesting as votes, that keep gay people oppressed: Starr thinks God's word should inform our laws and that God's word condemns homosexuality as a sin; maybe we can compromise by agreeing to outlaw sodomy in one state but legalize gay marriage in another? Who knows, but let's get them at the table and start bargaining. Forget all that pesky Constitutional stuff like separation of church and state and all are equal before the law: what matters is that we compromise.

I don't believe in genetically being homosexual or predestined love or any of that, weirdly that's the one thing I agree on with when it comes to conservatives.
It not being a genetic predisposition doesn't mean it's bad in the least though.
If any contrary claims may be said do say them, because I'm game for an actual discussion about it if someone else is.

So you'll use carbon dating to claim that dinosaurs exists (and contradict the Bible) then when it is used to validate the historicity of the Bible you will claim it's false? You are so smart, why didn't I think of that?
I'll give you one big cookie for using historicity in a sentance correctly. But it's going to have a huge bite out of it for not explaining what carbon dating validated in the bible.
It validates the location of the Israelites (Jews), the duration of their beliefs etc etc, (not the existence of God, I clearly did not say this). I thought an intellectual like yourself would have been able to acknowledge this from reading the examples that I posted, actually you probably didn't even read it because you're so biased and bigoted.

I'm biased and bigoted? For taking a bite out of the cookie?
I just wanted to know what you thought carbon dating proved in the bible and when anyone claimed that proof was false. I was sure I missed something.

Regardless, he is ineffective as of now. The master of compromise and get little done.
you know who during his term acted equally "ineffective and the was similarly a master of compromise"?
Ronald Reagan.

Americans have short attention spans so I doubt most people will even realize the extent Obama(or most presidents for that matter) effected this country. So you can prattle on about how much he did nothing.
Or you can actually check what he did pass through, rather than focusing on the political positioning topics.

Wait, I got this one. There's a perfect test you can do at home. Go look at some porn and see what gives you an erection. Is it the sexy ladies or the buff dudes?

Now change your preference and do the experiment again. Does your erection change?

Not as ignorant as saying only something good for 75%+ of the population counts as an achievement.

I didnt say of the population, i said of the people it affects. Lets use the healthcare bill as an example. (these are made up numbers) If it helps 37% of the people it affects, but hurts 63%...how is that a good thing?
