I listen to a mixture of music while playing FFXI, sometimes pop-ish like lady gaga, or throw on some disturbed. I even have a book in my itunes library that plays strictly *** kicking music for big fights^^

Usually, if not listening to in game music (hey its part of the artwork of the game so I try to hang with it for ambiance) I flip over to some of the soundtracks from previous FF games I get here ffextreme.com out of a sense of nostalgia and to see if I can make some tunes fit. By the way, Dark World, the FFVI music that plays on the world map after Kefka destroys the planet - with the desolate sound and howling winds, makes perfect sense in and around Bastok.
