I don't know in general, but mine are fine and my grandma's from whom I got them, didn't use glasses until she was like 70 and even then she only used them for reading until the age of 90.

Seriously glasses blow. I've had glasses since I was 8 and contacts since I was 10...contacts are a pain in the *** and eventually you just don't even care to deal with them anymore.
