Kids usually go trick or treating on "Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday and Thursday of Mysteries)" here and you usually just get money since people forget to have candy. As a kid I made more than my monthly allowance in one afternoon.

Graphics rarely, if ever, have any real impact on how a game is played. Expecting them to do so is just silly.
The NPCs actually use strategies for a change; not just "use buffs and super effective attacks" like they used to. Elesa, for example, will use Volt Switch to deal damage and switch out weakened Pokemon, rather than just using it haphazardly. Yes, it's a minor difference, but it's still an improvement over the previous entries.
All the story ever is when you break it down like that is a reason to go from point A to point B; that's not exclusive to Pokemon. The difference is that the NPCs are actually a part of this story, not just showing up once and then disappearing for the rest of the game.
I mean, Gym Leaders have always been depicted as being figures of authority in Pokemon, and yet BW are the first games in which they actually take an active part in taking down the bad guys.
The main story does end at the Plasma Fortress; the Seven Sages are a spin-off sidequest, not a major plot point.
You're overexaggerating the difficulty curve by a large margin. The story ends in the early 50's, and the post-game involves early-mid-60's. That's all.
And it was that way because players were complaining that the post-game in Pokemon games wasn't challenging; the same reason that the "secret" bosses like Red and Cynthia have gradually been given higher level teams with each installment.

I wouldn't say the minor characters have much to do with the story besides cameo appearances to help dissolve whatever evil plan team plasma had going on in their town.
Is there any point to the seven sages? I found them all and nothing happened, was there anymore to it?

I have two bowls, one big bowl full of candy and awesomeness in full view of the door and a small bowl of fruit hidden behind the door. Then I'm just a *** with the trick or treaters lol, if they are greedy fat gits that clearly need less candy in their lives, I get the sinister satisfaction of watching the smile fall off there fat faces when they see the giant bowl of candy and I give them a piece of fruit from behind the door >.>
Tbh the bowl of candy is there for me to munch on everytime I have to get up to answer the door.. and to crush the hopes of children etc <.<

Is there any point to the seven sages? I found them all and nothing happened, was there anymore to it? The improved graphics do help make it a better game than the previous ones; that doesn't mean they affect gameplay. It just means they look nicer than the previous ones.
Those cameo appearances are still more than what previous gym leaders had, and is a step in the right direction towards Pokemon games that aren't just "beat gym, beat evil team, beat next gym, beat evil team again" with minimal dialogue in between.
I, for one, would like a game where the gyms are optional and the story is the focus for a change, but that's too drastic a change to expect to see any time soon.
The point of the Seven Sages was to give the players the TMs without them just being random TMs on the floor again. Just another way to break up the boring post-game that Pokemon tends to usually have.
