I would assume the chemical composition of the alcohol has to do with it along with the methods of fermentation with various ingredients therein. Distilled filtration of pure grain such as Everclear is going to give a significantly more potent and pure intoxication to your liver and thus will essentially *** you up far too directly for your brain to make any particular by-products of emotion or behavior other than general incapacity. The rest from there is based on your general demeanor and inclination towards aggressive or passive behavior prior to consuming your drinks. Beer on the other hand is a bit more complex with the introduction of wheat, barley, hops, sometimes fruit, etc. all mingling and chemically reacting to one another via fermentation and filtering. Perhaps the introduction to these ingredients have a little more wholesome effect to your organs including your brain, akin to a liquid meal so to speak. I'm sure anyone who has had their fair share of beers (especially stouts) have felt rather "full" up to a certain point. Perhaps this has a link to the psychological effect of being happy or at peace with one's self, much like being happy after having finished a hearty hot meal. And wine is... a horse of another color. I'll think that one out and see what I can come up with >.> Wines are a complicated sort. Different grapes, different seasonal harvests, soil composition, exposure to sunlight, and how long it's set to age are all taken into account when it comes to taste. So....I would assume wine is just as complex as beer. EDIT: My brain is not happy with me ATM. my nephew is watching stuff about sasquatch on tv. now he's convinced it's real and keeps telling me fun facts. he just ran in here all excited, "DUSTIN! DUSTIN! THEY HAVE REAL VIDEO FOOTAGE OF SASQUATCH!".

Was it the old furrow-his-brow-places-hands-on-hips-stomp-one-foot-and-yell-"noooooooo!" argument? That's a good one! Why are kids so awesome?!? I would give anything to be half as excited, curious, eager, and in awe of the world around me. If bubbles still made me laugh, I would be set! bubbles are far too dangerous. one crazy chick blowing bubbles in my car almost killed me!
it's funny cause he's always been pretty practical. i blame his home life for turning him crazy. he didn't start sleeping with a night light til a few months ago... is it just me or does 10 seem late to start with the night light? Did someone say, bubbles?

Ten seems old to start it. If he was ten and continuing to do it from younger, that would be different. Or maybe he saw a movie or something that just terrified the heck out of him recently. :/ I think when I have kids, I might put fishtanks in their rooms. That way they can have a 'nightlight' from the fishtank light and save face, don't have to admit that they're scared (which is only really a thing if they have friends over or something. I never turned on my nightlight if I had friends or cousins staying over in my room, no matter how scared I was), as well as (more importantly) teaching them how to care for the fish. I don't remember when I started with a nightlight, but I know that around 10 I got rid of it in my room and put it in the bathroom just to find the lightswitch easier.
If anything a nightlight in the room is more of a safety measure. (It drives the bad monsters back into the closet! ... that scary scary closet..) Kicking the bedpost or door frame when half asleep because it's too dark really sucks... as does stepping on a lego. He's still stressed out with all the emotional trauma he ended up getting dragged through last fall. EDIT: Re-reading that...it's not as clear as my head made it sound...but some of you know me well enough to understand that mess. I was always worried the night light would make it easier for the monsters to see me : (
I changed out the normal bulb in my nightlight with a blue color bulb. Not only did it make the room look better at night, but it was cool and I didn't feel as bad about having a nightlight. Started a trend with my friends too as they all did the same with their favorite colors.
I have always had good night vision, but I always had a nightlight by the toilet so I could aim.

EDIT: Re-reading that...it's not as clear as my head made it sound...but some of you know me well enough to understand that mess. I think I started using one somewhere between 5 and 7 too. Before that I was just too young to be scared of monsters under the bed. I was just blissfully unaware that there were such things as monsters. But I can definitely see how emotional trauma could cause a child to need a nightlight. No shame in that. The reassurance that if you wake up, you will be able to see is very comforting, somehow. well, he has younger brothers, and i'm thinking that's where he's getting the nightlight from. maybe he just got used to it because of them?
Lielas idea of a fishtank is also very good.
Aquariums are very very peaceful. I used to have a 20 gallon tank. I could lay infront of it and just watch the fish until i fell asleep. Couple of Angelfish and some Neons... I want to get an aquarium for my house now..
