I need to dig through my parents house and find my telescope from when I was a kid. I bet the lenses are *** though. zahrah said: » Asura.Chuuuuu said: » washington had a ton of stars lol but here its like what stars? xD I can usually find Orion, the Big Dipper (Polaris of course), and I can faintly see the Seven Sisters from my back yard. I'm relatively close to downtown Austin, but I can imagine how disruptive LA lights are. How far outside of LA would you have to drive to get a good view? Hey Zah, I figured it'd be fitting to note that this is how I felt at work today having only 4-5 hours of sleep to myself before my shift.

We have an observatory somewhere in the Hill Country that I think is no more than forty-five minutes away from here. For a really good view I just need to drive about fifteen to twenty minutes in just about any direction, and find some back roads. Nothing super flashy or exciting, but I did get to see a good handful of shooting stars within a 3-4 hour time frame. Cept it was cold as balls and I couldn't stick around much longer. However, I think the main thing was the passive bliss of being out in the middle of nowhere in total darkness aside from the moonlight and twinkle of the cosmos themselves. Something about the darkness, stars and silence brings about a nice feeling of serenity. I think when I get a car I'll get a pickup truck so I can have an inflatable mattress in the bed and just go stargazing time to time. |
