I think it's a list of kids who were supposed to show up and sit with him. One little boy walked up to him and said his name, and Santa looked through his list til he found the kid's name. Then he let the kid sit on his lap. I should certainly hope that if a kid walked up who's name was NOT on the list, Santa would have pretended to find it and let the kid sit on him anyways. xD

Then, from the general consensus of those who responded to my thought from earlier... I'm a Geerd, for Neek sounded too much like a Monty Python reference, and Gerd incorporated too much of Nerd. Why does it get colder in here after I turn off the A/C.. ? When I woke up and the air was still on, I wasn't really all that cold, and when I first wake up is when I'm most 'vulnerable' to the cold. I turned off the air and a hour later I'm shivering and can't hardly hold my hands steady.
