Well I'm about to go to the Dr and ask for anti depression medicine. My family Dr who knows me very well is on holiday, so what are my chances of convincing the substitute Dr to actually help me rather than try and tell me I only need to talk to someone.

They won't give you any. Even if you to go a psychologist chances that he'll give you pills are small. Although if the psychologist sends you to a psychiatrist...yeah, hello drugs.
