If they aren't going in the kitchen, then it being in the kitchen isn't going to do any good.. Trap needs to be set where they appear the most.

It's not like a shark where they can smell the tiniest bit of food a mile a way.. It needs to be relatively close, it also needs to be close to where they feel comfortable enough to venture out.
