xbox console sales are terrible. they have to do anything they can to compete, and sony knows it. nintendo isn't even considered a competitor by sony as they have a completely different market.
I still use my PS5 regularly. One, I love couch gaming and probably always will. Two, I don't always want to keep up with meeting PC specs to play a game, combination of convenience and laziness knowing it should just work. This is not always the case now as it was in the past, though. I have never installed Steam so another self-imposed restriction is not having to set that up, too.
Once upon a time Sony said Nintendo isn't their competitor because Sony's customer are gamers into high definition gaming but switch players don't care about high definition graphics. Their customers don't overlap.
Imagine how things would change when: 1) Switch 2 is capable of running Cyberpunk 2077 level of games decently. 2) Xbox merges with PC platform PLUS a much better game pass with many AAA games available on day 1.
Sony needs to play a new card for the next generation IMO. Because I see a portion of Sony's customer leave for other platforms if this trend continues.
Ive been working the last two or three months trying to develop and record a very fast passed walkthrough in Palworld.
Despite taking so long due to how this game relies on RNG and many and many restarts to find the optimal route, I was doing quite well after developing the first leg in this walkthrough, now figuring the best route mid to pre-endgame, when I got the news that the new update will be released next 25, potentially changing lots of things.
Given the changes could obsolete my walkthrough before it is published, Ive decided to halt any new attempts, waiting for the next version and restart over.
Gonna see if I can learn some quick video editing while waiting.
Still worried how the changes gonna impact my walkthrough, as I pushed some limits to speed things up as much as I could
Because there is no incentive to buy an xbox. What was the last Xbox exclusive?
It's not like PS5 has that many strong exclusives either. Astro bot and demons soul remake are 2 bigger ones maybe, the other ones are either less popular games or "wait for 1 year for PC complete edition" games.
If the lack of exclusives is killing Xbox, then it could eventually weaken PS the same way unless things change.
There is no other platforms. You have PC Masters and the consoles peasants. Once the peasants got rich enough, they move to PC. I should get th steam deck because it's way better than the Nintendo switch but I don't play console games so might as well stick with my laptop.
The Japanese can keep going because they can only make hardware so they can keep the hardware race vs PC while Xbox is essentially a PC running Windows in a Box. At some point, Microsoft just think this is stupid and scrap the whole thing.
Japan has a fairly rich economy behind the console hardware because they get a ton of support development as well as good degree of sales.
You don't often see Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese games on consoles but you see a lot of them on PC.
You don't often see Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese games on consoles but you see a lot of them on PC.
Fun fact, UMC (A Taiwanese semiconductor company) actually made their own console in 90s, which tried to compete with SNES but failed due to being released way to late. It's called Super A'Can, you can Google it if you are interested in this forgotten part of the console gaming industry.
It still had couple of legit console games on it back then though.
As for why Chinese/Korean mostly release PC games, that's because MMO and mobile games are the biggest genre in those regions since 2000. Single player games market size aren't even close until recent years. So naturally dev will gravitate towards PC and mobile because that's the best platform for MMO and mobile gacha.
As soon as they started making high budget single player games like Stellar Blade and Wukong, they made them available on consoles too.
So it's really the genre and target audience that will determine the platform, not region that determine the platform.
Edit: Actually, even Genshin Impact has console version too. And for very long time it's one of the more popular "PS5 game" in Asia lol. So I don't think Chinese dev avoided consoles, it depends on what their customers prefer to play on.
Which is a dumb choice. In the end you can download all of them on literally any device in 2025, especially a steam deck(which has trophies) so they are not selling points at all. In fact they usually are worse than the emulators just given the amount of modding possible
I don't mod nor download illegal games, so Nintendo still offers the most options to play those old school games legally.
To you.. and your opinion, but most dont care about that especially if they already owned the game multiple times. It isn't even illegal if you extract the files yourself to put on an emulator. It is just a fact that there are many ways to play those classic games that don't involve Nintendo.

I wish PSN could have more retro games but Sony just won't ;(
I do too, but they are adding them slowly. I was very surprised to see one of my favorites on there with trophies, Wild Arms 2. They are adding the RE2 and 3 games soon. Altho a lot of those don't have trophies which is annoying, it can't be that hard to add.
I still enjoy my PS5. PC requires a lot of tinkering and so does the steam deck. Sometimes you just wanna sit down play and thats it, not wonder why something randomly doesn't work or is goofing.
Finally getting a chance to have these in 1/6th scale, everything seems limited edition now.
I am watching a playthrough of OG FF4 on SNES. I was very impressed at how terribly slow the walking speed is in the SNES version. The walk speed was increased in subsequent versions but on SNES it's unbearable.
I wonder how the hell can people in 1991 tolerate this walk speed, and still remember this game as one of the best jrpg experience despite such a serious gameplay flaw lol. Nostalgia sure is an impressive emotion....
I think the walk speed was fine relative to map size; it made exploration feel more meaningful. I've actually been watching my gf play through the remake this week and she felt like dungeons were too small (she never played original). I think the faster walk speed contributes to that.
Personally, I still remember it as one of the best SNES games.

It was 1991, what else were we gonna do, play with a ball in a cup? Watch grass grow? Paint dry?

People are raving about 75 era FFXI all the time, go watch footage of that era, it's insufferable.
Hell I still think they could up it a notch today despite the movement adjustment and 18% movement speed gear. It's one of the many reasons I despise COR.
The least they could do is to significantly increase movement speed and duration from chocobo and spectral jig on /DNC and get rid of the damn animation lock.
It's a very interesting game(s). Improved on the first, what's not to like.
But uh,it's redoing all the same beats. Unlocking the same things. Re-acquiring the same skills. It's that classic sequel trope, I beat the whole thing and I have to start from zero again?

Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis was out in 1991 though, he runs SO MUCH FASTER!!!!!
So I read up till ch218 of Rent a Girlfriend, motivated by some joke of a video review mentioning that chapter.
What is the deal of that chapter? Well, Kazuya was kinda of rejected by the girl MC, and tries to hide how hurt he is.
But the thing is... his mind works weirdly to help him coping with the rejection.
The coping his mind do is portrait the girl MC in lots and lots of sexual scenes with other guys that supposely are better than Kazuya.
The amount of scenes shown was almost borderline full hentai than romcom.
It ends up with him having a *** at pool while crying.
Why Im mentioning this? Well, because I somehow kinda related with this.
Back when I was 16 to 17, I also had a rejection from a girl I liked a little too much. And I kinda of knew she liked another guy that was my colleague at prep school.
I also saw she once kinda of flirting another guy in his store.
Well, all boils down you end up wondering what the girl who rejected you was doing after the rejection.
Probably having sex with other guys she prefered over you.
IDK.
But unfortunelly, I kinda understood Kazuya.
Maybe Freud can explain what is going on with our depraved minds...
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
