The reason they factory farm chickens is to push down prices so poor people can have eggs, if all chickens were in big fields and fed the best food the prices would quadruple over night and poor people could no longer afford eggs. They would become rich people food.

This is simple numbers, supply and demand. If you promote humane chicken production this will lower supply and push up prices, because it takes more effort and time per egg to do that. Factory farming does what it says it does, it industrialized chicken and egg production for the masses so they could have high quality diets and stave off nutrition based health issues.

Our ancestors did that so well, that the main health issues now is eating too much. This is an insane success story of all human history, we live in the shade of the tree they planted and complain it's too shady.

Most upper class people don't understand why things are the way they are, they also don't understand that just because they can live a vegan lifestyle and be healthy, most poor people cannot. The reason being, they have terrible understanding of nutrition and if you removed meat from poor peoples diet they would immediately start to suffer all kinds of nutrition health issues. Cause they eat like crap and are too stupid to research of understand how to be healthy without cheat foods.


It's not though, even most politicians don't understand it and they think the internet is a western thing. When they see Tate getting big numbers on social media they lose their minds, not understanding most of them are not even any western country at all.

It's always funny when I see progressive politicians (mostly feminists) be mad when they see men acting how men normally act (banter etc), and they then call them radicalized and setup think tanks on how to "de-radicalize" them from normal masculine behavior cause they are so intimidated by it. "this man! ;-;, he told me to make a sammich online and I need therapy now to get over it! ban him from everything now!" Then they decide to fully support mass immigration of people from actual real misogynistic 3rd world cultures, who 100% support all the things that upset them to a far higher degree than they even understand, and put them and other women at actual bodily risk irl.

Do you know how many people have small scale chicken 'farms' on their property in rural areas? These chickens roam free, and the cost per egg is often cheaper than it is at the grocery store. The overhead comes from paying a distributor and a grocery store owner.

You absolutely don't need factory farms for 'poor people' to be able to afford eggs. They exist to pad profits on a multi-level enterprise. Anyone with a bit of land can produce eggs at competitive prices, so the market would self cap even if you outlawed cruel farming practices (yes, it would be a tiny bit higher than it is now).

Idk about your region, but I quickly checked a platform that sells free-range eggs directly from the rural area farmers in my region, they cost about $6 usd for 10 eggs.

On the other hand, eggs from caged chickens in supermarket cost about $1.5-$1.8 USD for 10 eggs, even the more expensive ones cost less than $4. This is in big city too.

So what you described doesn't happen everywhere. In my region there is like $2-$4 usd "chick welfare tax" that you need to pay if you care about their living conditions.

Edit: maybe you can argue that if people drive directly to a farmer and negotiate a price instead of buying on a platform it will be cheaper than $6. But driving to rural area takes time and time is money. So you still have to consider that.

Edit 2: Just found another farm that sold 10 free-range eggs for $3.5, but adding shipping fee makes it $8 lol. This chicken welfare tax is quite high....

It's not uncommon outside of NA afaik.

Most poor people today live in overpopulated concrete jungles in the cities or other built up areas. They have no garden or place to keep their own chickens and there are no rural farms around them to supply this mass of people. We have built our cities around the foundation of industrialized food production, and we can't go back on that now unless we fundamentally change city living and spread people out more (ain't happening, first sign of lowering birth rates and out politicians open the flood gates).

Added to this there are health and safety issues, regulations and customer expectations of not having weird things in/on the eggs (like poop and half grown chicken embryos in the egg). Factory raised chickens are kept in sterile environments, fed specific controlled foods and medications, shipped and kept at proper temps and the chickens are also kept from their eggs after they lay to stop them/others breaking the eggs.

Didn't they kill hundreds of millions of chickens last year in the US cause of avian flu outbreak or something and that lead to massive increases in egg prices? We have too many regulations, and modern living simply does not gel with the idea of free roam chicken production being a thing on a mass scale.

Free roam chicken/animal production is mostly a middle class+ luxury food choice, that they are prepared to pay more for cause they can.

If Bill Gates gets his way we will mostly all be eating lab grown fabricated meat and egg matter anyway, and if that happens almost every chicken in the world will be killed cause they wont be useful anymore (and heavy regulation on farms or self ownership will come in soon after, to make sure you eat that fabricated laboratory product they invested billions into)

It is the better way...... eventually. We're far from it.

Perfect nutrition and no extra sugars, salts, antibiotics, estrogen. And no animal cruelty.

They're entirely too focused on making lab meat look like meat, with fake blood and food coloring, instead of focusing on what matters.
(because people don't like to eat grey bricks of fake meat, but we'll get there)

And we'll have more/better veggies, because we won't be feeding it to the cows en masse. And using 30% of available land for corn for ethanol, cattle feed and corn syrup.

Long long past our lifetimes.

Even that idea of "perfect nutrition" is harder to reach now, since we have been sacrificing nutrients in our crops for preservability to reach wider markets, and profit for the last 50+ years

So the same salad or veggies/fruits have a lot less nutrients today per serving than it did 100 years ago

But weed is more potent, so we're doing something properly

I pray for the day we abandon this stupid imperial measurment system and switch to metric. I've been using metric at work for 13 years and I've nearly converted my entire life to metric because of it. Base 10 is so much simpler.

I still struggle with reference tho. If you ask me to show how big 30cm is, I have to do the conversion in my head to in/ft and then my brain can conceptualize the size more accurately.

If I cut your liver in half right now, and gave it to someone else, within 6 weeks both halves would grow to an entire new liver.

Imagine how sustainable Hannibal lector would be in 2025. You'd only need like 100 people hanging out in the basement to enjoy a tasty fresh caught never frozen liver meal every day with no deaths and no grazing farmland needed

That sounds like where imperial measurements started. 10 fingers + 2 palms = 12. 12 should be the base for our measuring. So sayeth the king.
