Odin.Eikechi said: » Fenrir.Enternius said: » It was the first shooter to really nail a cover mechanic, something that's been used in almost alllll recent third-person shooters nowadays, same system they used in GoW and everything. It also introduced Horde mode, a co-operative mode that's you and three friends vs waves of enemies. It's been recreated in Treyarch CoD games as Zombies, MW3 as Survival, Halo ODST and Reach as Firefight... It had an intelligent reloading mechanic where if you had good timing, you could reload faster and get a temporary damage boost to your bullets for a few seconds. Used in a few recent games, none of which are coming to mind atm >.> Many games have had cover mechanics (mostly third person games... MGS1 comes to mind back in like 2000).. maybe they did it WELL, but it wasn't revolutionary by what you're describing.. The quick load, i'll give you, though that mechanic sounds kinda lame... dmg boost cuz you can spam a reload button? thats what it sounds like... idk... And the waves of enemies thing... I wouldn't call that revolutionary either >_<. I'm trying to think of a game that has had that in the past... I guess you could say every dynasty warrior game...They have droves and droves of endless enemies until you actually clear your objective. /shrug idk mate The cover system in GOW cannot be compared with MGS, they are two completely different types of game. As far as the reload button goes, it's the complete opposite of spamming. Spamming the reload button will lock the gun and result in you becoming overrun by enemies. It requires timing to get it right, which in turn requires skill when you are trying to reload in the middle of many epic firefights. EDIT: And I have run out of mine. :( Phoenix.Sehachan said: » What game is that? Gears talk reminds me I should research wtf happened in the last two.
"You getting Gearz?" "No." "Yes you are." "No." "It's being shipped to your house already." "Touche." Caitsith.Zahrah said: » Whitest Kids always deserve +s. You should check out that show, Et! It's very tasteful and surprisingly doesn't get annoying or repetitive. I really wanna nab it on Steam now. One of my favorites...
Arrested Development is good too! Caitsith.Zahrah said: » Just so everyone knows..."***" is on the profanity filter. Heads up! I know, I was shocked earlier when I tried it too. Phoenix.Sehachan said: » What platform is that for? I think you could download it on the PSN or XBL, or even on Steam for PC. It's one of those indie downloadable games I think. But I need to look into it first. Phoenix.Sehachan said: » What platform is that for? Invincible bears, raping your churches and burning your women is that what you want? If you're getting shot by two guys at once, and just barely safe in your cover, your fingers are going to be twitching and you'll mess up the timing. For certain guns, for instance the sniper rifle, it is almost essential. Sniper rifles are only one-shot kill to the head if you don't active-reload, and it's one shot kill to the body too if you do active reload. The tradeoff is that it's much harder to hit an Active reload on a Sniper Rifle than on any other gun. |
