I should do that, get our name out there via week-long drama, just make a super secret rule and not enforce it for months, then just perma someone for breaking said rule and act like it's a rule that everyone should know.

Basically, Discord made the NSFW flag for text channels, ordinarily you can post nudity in a Discord so long as it isn't child porn, gore, or revenge porn (like posting an exes nudes for breaking up with you) anyone who has been on the internet for more than a day knows what NSFW is.

When you make partner with Discord, you have additional rules to follow and these rules are hidden behind a simple phrase; "be on your best behavior" so of course we're just like "Ok, standard operating procedure then" life goes on...for months, hell years.

The other day the FFXIV Subreddit crew had to boot a guy so he goes and reports the Discord as having "lolicon" which I assume he meant Lalafell hentai which wasn't allowed even in their hidden NSFW channel because it blurred the line between what's acceptable and what isn't. They get departnered by Discord and are told it's because they had an NSFW channel, then they are told it's because people say "retard" THEN a Discord rep takes the r/FFXIV mod's messages out of context and uses against him.. according to this mod and chat screenshots he apparently has, the guy who reported didn't actually see any "lolicon" and it was just a revenge report.

Anyway, from all this r/FFXIV basically gets departnered permanently over a rule that was only published in the partner Discord and buried under discussion and...banter. This rule is now know; that even though you have NSFW flags, you can't actually have NSFW content because "if you're partnered, NSFW flags are for spoilers!" ....and now people are losing their collective ***, not only because we learned of a super secret rule partners had to follow whether they were told about it or not but also because it prohibits use of terms gamers fling at each other like "retard"


So what does Discord Partnership get you?
-Server owner gets free Discord Nitro and a hoodie, a "budget hoodie" according to Sonomaa of BG.
-Custom server invite URL.
-VIP Access to the servers (meaning your server comes up faster than unpartnered servers in the case of an outage, also faster bitrate on voice calls)
-Brand protection.
-If you're on par with PewDiePie or Ninja, you get money. (No one really gets this unless they don't need it in the first place)

So, basically the server owner gets free ***and everything else is just, meh. "But wait, if I'm partnered, I can just make a second server for NSFW ***! I'm a genius!" No, you can't. I said "brand protection" you can't make a second server under the same brand, Discord will nuke it.

Also, if you didn't get the implication, yes, BG is partnered, you can't post titties or say "retard" anymore and I made the unintentional funny that BG went PG the other day.

FYI, despite being a mod here, I actually like BG, they have pretty cool people, the staff is friendly (moreso than me), and I actually admired the way their mods kept up with the forums while being among the users rather than ruling from the shadows. BG is fun for what it is and the freedoms they give over there to say whatever the hell you want, within reason, we can't do that here, perhaps it's not a big deal but it is slightly disappointing...it also made me agree with Spicy so there's that weighing on me too.
