I updated the post with the Yoshi-P interview and one thing they talked about was jump potions. I think it would be a good idea to include them for new players who buy Stormblood
These posters made good arguments:
People call it pay to win, but I think they're just paranoid and reaching with their very broad assumptions. Sorry, but that's how I see all these "I think it's a terrible idea!" posts.
No one considers the time investment that is required and simply thinks of themselves; which is pretty common for this sub as a whole, it's time that stops and we actually take a step back and realize just how big this game is and how much you can't 'speedrun.' Compared to other games and MMOs, the amount you -have- to do is insane to get to current content and with a model that updates the game every three months, they cannot sustain a flow of new players mixed in with the old if they don't add something to subvert this.
Streamlining ARR is also not possible and would waste a lot of development time. Are you willing to give up a raid tier or a second dungeon every patch? What about Extreme Primals?
Because that's likely what it would take to go back and change all those quests in a drastic and meaningful way.
But I have to ask... are you mad about the Chinese dress giving an extra +30% EXP boost when all three pieces are worn? How about the EXP boosting items from buying an expansion pack's CE? That's pay-to-win, but everyone who has those items doesn't hesitate to use them when leveling alts or lower classes. Their "Jump potion" is the same concept, and in the game's current state, it makes sense to add it before it gets too out of hand.
Personally, I think a one-time use jump potion that is given to purchasers of the expansion is perfectly fine. If they were to include it on mogstation? Well, I wouldn't be happy about that, and I'd like some restrictions on it like "One per world" or something, but honestly I'll let them choose what they think is best for their game and if they are 7:3 on the potion, then its clear that they are on the verge of making a decision and I can respect that. They have knowledge we don't. They know when new players drop off in the MSQ, and for them to be considering this potion, it implies that the rate at which new players quit playing must be pretty high; since that's literally all he ever mentions when speaking of this option.
Regardless. This game will never become pay to win, because to win in any meaningful content, you have to get good at playing.
A jump potion won't make anyone better than the rest of us— that's the beauty of this game's design philosophy at its core and why I think everyone who is complaining is selfishly putting themselves above new players and overacting by the highest degree.
But that's just like, my opinion.
Personally I disagree. Even if you increase experience gain, they'd need to put a lot of effort into streamlining the story. Even if they were able to cut out a lot of the filler and make it doable in a reasonable amount of time (which, I don't see as being possible) it'd still be a turn-off to newer players. Jump potions are a fantastic idea for encouraging new people to get into the game, and it's not like the player base could collectively get any worse at the game as far as I'm concerned, so the worry of there being new players immediately at level 60 is moot.
Do I seriously think a brand new player who found himself with 30-40 skills would be confused? No, because they are choosing to skip levels and anyone who's not a moron understands that high level = more buttons. And yes, I call it a stale expansion because unless they turn off all chat windows and don't touch the internet, someone is going to spoil that content for them. Even if they have good intentions, it happens.
You say that "well his friends shouldn't be *** then" but let's be real here. What if they are? Sometimes that happens. Why not give people the option to play the game how they want? Why not take out the grind for some people? As horrible as it is to think about, there are people who play this game and don't give a ***about the story. Those are people who I might enjoy playing with at max level, you know? But if they have to slog through 60 levels of MSQ 9 times out of 10 they're just not gonna bother.
I can see raiders buying potions to get new alts up and running quickly as well

every single night for the last 2 weeks: "HOW DO I MAKE THE NETFLIX TURN ON ?" Sounds like my customers even before the app was implemented on our equipment. "I have to PAY for it? Isn't it already paid for through your bill!?!" Lovely.
An app to control the dvr or an app to watch stuff from your account? Quite frankly with the absurd prices they charge it should be included. o.O Netflix is now an available app through the X1 box. Nothing to do with DVR. It just makes easier access, especially for people without a smart tv/chromecast etc..
They're not going to include it in your tv bill when it's not their service. <.< If they did, it'd be 9.99 extra! :D I misunderstood the entire discussion, my bad. That's what I get for trying to read on mobile. Isn't X1 comcrap garbage? That things is awful. You asked a question and then answered it yourself. But I'll just answer it anyway. No, it's not. I actually love it.
You confused me as you stated dish, and yeah the X1 platform is comcrap, that thing is horrible. So damn slow. Then let it update, call for signals or get a new box. I work for Comcast and I have their services, no issues at all. Works smooth/fast.
Except when my new neighbors upstairs had services installed and the newbie tech cut the wrong damn line, left me without services for *GASP* a whole day!111!1!!! It's been every instance I've seen of it, it's a poor design and cheap hardware. But lolok.

Random:
On the subject of "games I'm finally getting around to playing," Shadowrun: Dragonfall. On the recommendation of a friend. He was like "yeah, it's always on sale on Steam or GOG for like $5. Don't pay more for it than that." So I waited, you know, four months for it to be on sale again...
Anyhow, I've started about 6 new characters just to get a feel for things but I've settled in now and I'm really liking the old school RPG feel. I've missed it greatly.

I do, but it doesn't invalidate my complaint. It's one of the least satisfied customer bases in the US and it helps when you have regional monopolies.
More power to you.

Usually if someone is good at ERP I assume they are female.
I find that men do a terrible job writing sexy stuff, even if they are generally great writers otherwise.

Well see first were the dragon ***...
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
