in the early days of literacy, they didn't use spaces or punctuation so you kind of had to just know where one word ended and the other began (or read it out loud)

if you have to read out loud, you're not very good at reading

but I'll give them some slack because reading is pretty crazy if you don't know how

earlier today, I was reading about a theory called bicameral something

in the 70s a guy wrote a book based on the idea that humans had language before consciousness

this seems like it must be true but the implications are a little weird

I need to read this book

the theory is that before about 3000 years ago, humans were not really self aware and we had a two-part mind: the speaking part and the listening part and the listening part basically just did what the speaking part said like it was the gods speaking

so basically, the idea is not long ago, everyone was schizophrenic

this sounds pretty crazy and this guy got a lot of criticism but he makes some good points. Daniel Dennett says he's probably wrong about a lot of stuff but he might be onto something.

there isn't any form of introspection in the Iliad or the early books of the Bible and ancient people do seem pretty schizo with their gods talking to them and ***

Reading without moving your lips was considered crazy at one time too iirc

also makes a lot of sense with how the voice in our heads works with its constant jabbering from seemingly out of nowhere

I guess I'll give the ancient schizos some slack too because if optimus prime was the voice in my head, I would always do what he said

If I weren't trying to draw a bunch to make up for slacking on practicing this weekend I would start up with ya, just don't have the time.
