I have come to the realization...
I am poor in FFXIV :( How much?

Welp, it's over. It seems Alec Peters has single-handedly destroyed Star Trek fan films.
http://www.startrek.com/article/star-trek-fan-film-guidelines-announced Quote: The fan production must be less than 15 minutes for a single self-contained story, or no more than 2 segments, episodes or parts, not to exceed 30 minutes total, with no additional seasons, episodes, parts, sequels or remakes. The title of the fan production or any parts cannot include the name “Star Trek.” However, the title must contain a subtitle with the phrase: “A STAR TREK FAN PRODUCTION” in plain typeface. The fan production cannot use the term “official” in either its title or subtitle or in any marketing, promotions or social media for the fan production. The content in the fan production must be original, not reproductions, recreations or clips from any Star Trek production. If non-Star Trek third party content is used, all necessary permissions for any third party content should be obtained in writing. If the fan production uses commercially-available Star Trek uniforms, accessories, toys and props, these items must be official merchandise and not bootleg items or imitations of such commercially available products. The fan production must be a real “fan” production, i.e., creators, actors and all other participants must be amateurs, cannot be compensated for their services, and cannot be currently or previously employed on any Star Trek series, films, production of DVDs or with any of CBS or Paramount Pictures’ licensees. That's pretty harsh
the almighty trump should've patented the idea for a national wall, now everyone wants to do it!!

Wow really...somehow I suspect this has much less to do with Red Shirt Diaries and more to do with how incredible the crowdfunding on 'Axanar' has gotten no? http://www.space.com/33259-star-trek-axanar-trailer-released-amid-lawsuit.html That's so terrible...it even targets the actors (who had appeared in previous ST properties) along with requiring the use of official merchandise instead of pro-am props and costumes. :/ Axanar would have been so cool, too... ;_; Fenrir.Schutz said: » Wow really...somehow I suspect this has much less to do with Red Shirt Diaries and more to do with how incredible the crowdfunding on 'Axanar' has gotten no? http://www.space.com/33259-star-trek-axanar-trailer-released-amid-lawsuit.html That's so terrible...it even targets the actors (who had appeared in previous ST properties) along with requiring the use of official merchandise instead of pro-am props. :/ Axanar would have been so cool, too... ;_; Probably didn't help that they were claiming that Axanar was going to somehow rival the movies and bring back "real Trek". With so many former Trek actors taking part, it could easily be misinterpreted as an official work. Even despite all that, this possibly could've been avoided had Axanar shut down when CBS/Paramount first approached them. Or when they issued the C&D. But no, they had to throw everyone else under the bus by making a big public spectacle out of it. I see the point business-wise, but from a fan-appreciation-perspective (which is ultimately what this whole thing is about, anyhow no?) I'd like to personally think that good-writing, good-storytelling, homage to source material, and love of the craft of creating a story fans would love to see is what matters most.
Once the lawyers all get involved, however appropriate it might be for them to do, that vision gets lost amid terms of 'unrealised revenue gains' and 'inappropriate use of intellectual property and likeness'. It's just unfortunate, from my perspective. It would have made a great story, I think (from what I'd seen in 'Prelude to Axanar') if only it could have been realised. |
