Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
So yeah the last company I worked for I learned some stuff about used car dealerships and regulations...
I just happened across a used car dealer in a Facebook group being a total asswipe to a bunch of people who were pointing out his prices as being unfair. So I pointed out to the customers he was harassing that the dealership is in violation of FTC regulations, which ones specifically, and gave them a link to the FTC website to help them file a formal complaint. If you don't use the words, you'll never learn them. Stop encouraging people to stay dumb, dammit! I praise them for looking up words to check spelling, usage, and nuance! A Thesaurus is not just an extinct dinosaur! Heya
I have two 20% discount codes from the Square-Enix store for Just Cause 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. If anyone's interested send me a message. You're always so antidisestablishmentarianism, Josi. Quit being insouciant. I feel so happy today I think I'm going to either start a riot or go to sleep.
Damn pain meds! Josiahkf said: » Mmmm opiates Opiate tolerance ftl Right? At best they help a little more than ibuprofen and at worst they make me physically ill. Random Thought: Is it weird to anyone else that we have done so much to limit and restrict advertising of tobacco, but we don't do much about alcohol?
I haven't done a ton of research or anything, but doesn't alcohol cause a lot of issues as well. Alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, liver damage, and all the stuff like rape, domestic abuse, voting for Donald Trump. I see ads all the time for alcohol, hear them on the radio, and often during timeframes where children would hear and see them. I dunno, just seems odd to me. Just seems like the advertising should be tamed down a bit or restricted to certain times/outlets. I mean a lot of ads are like... only cool ***happens when alcohol is involved, a party isn't fun without it, etc etc. Just saying "drink responsibly" at the end doesn't seem like enough to me. Quote: In Sweden, Swedish law generally forbids alcohol advertisements. However, advertisement is permitted for beverages identified as "class 1" or "light beer." Other beverages, such as medium and strong beers (3.5% alcohol or more), which share a name with advertised light beers may benefit from this. Since 2005, newspapers have allowed advertisements for wine, and later for spirits, based on the provisions of an EU directive. The government of Sweden has protested these advertisements, but EU laws are applicable in Sweden unless clearly shown to be invalid in Swedish jurisdiction. These advertisements contain warnings which are worded less strongly than the warnings on tobacco products - for example, "Avoid drinking while pregnant," as opposed to "smoking kills." It also says (in giant letters) "drinking at an early age increases the risk for alcoholism" alcohol can also be used as a cooking tool and other things.
Maybe I could more specifically say BEER advertising?
Advertising for spirits seems less aggressive already. Usually it is just showing the bottle and like "this exists". Sam Adams though... those ads are like "Summer just isn't summer without a Sam Adams Nastyboy Ballsack Pale Ale" "October is only a month because of Sam Adams Octoberfest". Tobacco is too regulated, frankly. I get why they started doing it, but the word is out. Everyone knows it's bad for you. Do it at your own risk.
Same goes for alcohol, really. Which is why this: Grumpy Cat said: » I haven't done a ton of research or anything, but doesn't alcohol cause a lot of issues as well. Alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, liver damage, and all the stuff like rape, domestic abuse, voting for Donald Trump. Doesn't really ring true to me. All it does is lower inhibitions. Those impulses to do terrible things were still there and could have still be acted upon, sober or under the influence of some other (il)legal drug. At least Sam Adams commercials aren't full of stereotypical idiot male archetypes, preying on men's deepest fear (which being too much like a woman, apparently?) Anheuser Busch and Miller Brewing market their biggest brands like serious *** douchebags. It isn't even the alcohol that's the problem imo, it's all the idiotic messages contained therein. As for what you're saying, that logic could be applied to junk food, overpriced automobiles, gambling, and countless other extravagances prone to abuse. |
