Since we're discussing types of immortality, ponder "Groundhog Day" immortality: when you "die" - from old age, accident, violence, plague, whatever - your mind is kicked back to when you were six minutes old. You re-live your life, with the following conditions:

- Anything that would have happened, that you don't interfere with, happens exactly the same; as in, the winning lottery numbers don't change, unless you end up working as the person who runs the drawing. Anything you interfere with can change, however.

- You retain your memories, but you're still subject to the problems of being a child/teenager; coordination issues as you re-learn to walk, puberty playing hell with your emotions, etc. Also, a one year old who can read the newspaper will raise eyebrows, so you'll have to play it cool for a while.

So, my question for the room: does the timeloop drive you mad, or do you come to value the good parts of it (never have to truly say goodbye to grandma, can always be rich if you choose to be, etc)?
Would rather be frozen at a certain age or something. Or capable of aging and deaging at will.

What if you could die to a traumatic injury but would revive moments later without a scratch.

Or being able to just "turn off" senses in case you were set on fire or were shot. "We shot him 753 times and he just laughed at us."

I think the ideal immortality would be Dorian Grey immortality. You never age, never die, immediately regenerate, and if you ever get tired of it, look at your portrait.

It depends on how you lived your life the first time.

For one, I wouldn't be disabled anymore if I had the knowledge today than what I had prior to my accident. Another thing, I would know what would be my ultimate death, and if it becomes preventable (you know, like some Canadian might come to San Antonio and shoot me in the back one day), then I would live my life even further.

I think if we were given said option, we would ultimately live happier lives each time we die.

Also, Jos, have I told you how great you look today?

Plot Twist 2: Not only do we relive our lives over and over again, but in the bodies of the people we give most grief over.

I think in any case of extended consciousness, whether your hypothetical loop or straight-up agelessness, it varies by person. Some people are just more resilient to tedium or hardship. I'm confident I would have the inner peace that would allow me to handle these kinds of things without losing my mind.

As I understand it, complete isolation seems far more destructive. It's part of why I'm compelled to reach out to friends and people here when they sound depressed and lonely.

Psh, I know I can handle emotions far better than most people.

I mean, I have been dumped by so many women over the ages, I don't even bother with them anymore.

My mother is dead, so I'm already over her death. My dad, sister, niece and nephew are all the family I care about that's left. I'm sure I can handle their deaths just fine.

I'm passed the point of thinking about suicide. My depression is already at an all time high due to my disability. And yet, here I am, still kicking.

I know I can handle immortality.

So basically, you are calling me Krillin.

Thanks Kojo, this is retaliation for the Oklahoman joke, isn't it?

Everytime you die, you start over as another random human being with your mind wiped in the course of our long history. This repeats for billions of years until you have lived every life on earth, even hitler.

And that's how gods are made. Once you finish all of humanity, the knowledge every life gained all culminated into one being and you are finally grown.

I know I've read a story like this but I just can't remember what it was

9gag and imgur had a repost about it a year ago, maybe you caught it on the front page or something.

Might have been it, I remember it being a comic of sorts though

Edit: Found it, it was just a bunch of text

I'll stop you at your first example.
That isn't healthy. That means you are letting one of (or all of)
-fear of suffering
-fear of rejection
-bitterness/resentment towards others or self

Stop you from acting and pursuing your desires. This is the exact opposite of healthily processing emotions. This is dysfunctionality.
Dysfunctional behavior is letting it control you (or in this case, me).

I don't want to be in a relationship anymore. I don't care if it's a deep-seeded fear of suffering/rejection or resentment towards others. I have accepted the fact of being forever alone, and I'm ok with it. I don't think I should be pressured into doing what society thinks is considered "healthy" when I'm perfectly happy at the way my life is right now (except the disabled part, but what can I do about that? I'm not going to mope all over that anymore, I play with the cards I'm dealt with).

So, I don't agree with you about your viewpoint in what is considered "healthy processing emotions" because everyone is different, and cope with different things differently.

Why thank you! I put in a rediculous amount of product in today so the curls would be perfectly defined and so I wouldn't have to think about such *** during the day.

and I was at the bank earlier and some girl was like, "excuse me is that a perm?" And I said, "no it's just my natural hair" and her eyes widened, lol.

You look badass today as well seƱor
I...well....huh?

I stumbled upon this guy on Youtube with very educating videos told in a funny way. He's been around for 5 years so I'm probably extremely late to the party.

Still, here's a sample video:

Edit: Whoops, I realized just now that the last video I posted was a tad politics-orientated.

Have some Nordic-related info instead :)
