Quote it here if you don't mind.
I might have missed that, and if it clarifies something that disallows me to mention the name of a specific crab in FFXI, then that would be good to know.
This site enjoys an active understanding with SquareEnix, if not to the point of a community sponsorship. Over the years, we have tailored our tools and feature sets specifically to the level that we would not reach the point of game imbalance and trigger retribution.
As such, using this site's forums as a method to encourage or transmit information about additional 3rd party utilities that actually do intend to break the game experience in some way is expressly forbidden. It's a slap in the face to both SE, and this site's excruciatingly delicate 4+ year effort to provide useful features to our users while not negatively impacting the core game mechanics.
Also:
Cliff, Scragg, and myself have discussed our policy towards 3rd party tools and the delicate balance we have with SquareEnix probably four dozen times -- at great length -- over the many years this site has been in operation.
I've even given several long, frequently-quoted summaries about why our stance is the way it is, especially regarding our differences of opinion about say... Windower, versus something like a claim bot.
User proposals to increase the functionality of the crafting section, or email/text notifications on AH sale, or countless other suggestions have always been clearly and publicly discussed in light of our "do no harm" policy towards the balance of the game. It was also explained in all three versions of the site FAQ since Day 1.
We have had exhaustive threads on the subject to explain how we arrived at the policy we have, and the new rules could not be any more clear-cut in the way they are written.
So the "we didn't know that" line isn't just a poor excuse, it's incredibly galling to even suggest that's somehow our fault.
