VM with Windows 7

For XI, it works wonders. Also saves from not having to have the extra tower laying around.

I've been trying to keep less old tech around, at least computer wise, and usually get expansion cards for what I need to adapt, like a PCI-E IDE card, to load PS2 games on a hard drive (the software won't see the drive through a usb adapter). I haven't tried to see if it works yet, I need to get around to it.

Today I learned that I would not be very happy with an iphone.
Tried sending my room mate a mp3 file to use as his text message tone, and it seems iOS gave a big "*** you, no way" to that objective. Unless of course there's something simple overlooked and it's actually easier than I realize; since ease of use seems to be the MO with Apple based OSes.

Today I completely formatted my 'droid, removed the OS entirely, flashed on a custom recovery OS and then proceeded to flash on my own custom tailored version of my favorite Android operating system. Modular customization 4lyfe.

Do you mean an actual Droid? I didn't know that they still made those. Or is it something else?

I should do that with mine, just to change some stuff around, but I'll wait til I can afford a backup phone, in case I brick it :D (I'm still surprised I managed to bring it back from a failed update a bit back, Odin worked wonders.

Nokia

I had a model similar (been having trouble finding a picture of it) and I plastered that thing across so many surfaces it's not even funny.

Like I must have dropped it in the parking lot at work at least 2 dozen times, and put it back together and still worked.

Jet you're doing it wrong. It works on my computer with any USB to IDE adapter I ever tried.

You need a decent one which bridges the IDE device to USB, not one that presents itself to the computer as a USB flash drive.

I'll never understand aunts.
Or at least not mine...

"I have a problem with my computer" she says.
I can already tell where this is going but I still ask: "ok, what's the deal?"

"I keep getting a blue screen when I start it up with some weird text on it"

I try to surpress a mean smile and say: "It's called a blue screen of death. Pretty severe problem and I suggest you take it to the repairs. I can't really help you."

She gets a bit mad and says: "But I thought you knew everything about computers!"

I stay calm and reply: "Dear aunt, I make webpages. That's something entirely different..."

And her final response: "It's still a computer! You should know an answer!"

I'm done.

Yeah, if I had a better adapter that made it show up as an IDE device, then it should work.

Unfortunately I have the cheap ones (to be fair, the one was free).

Interestingly enough, I have an old serial dexdrive for the playstation memory cards, and I was using psxmemtool to read/write the cards, and well my newer computer doesn't have a serial port, so I ended up using my old one. I found a serial>usb adapter and while it shows up in the computer just fine (even as a com port) the software just won't see it.

I'll try it with the idc10 header soon, if this one fits.

Then again, for the PS2 I may need to hunt down another hdd, for some reason the thing won't read it now, I'm hoping it just needs redone and not just dead.

edit: for shits and giggles, know of a brand of ide>usb that works?

No, because here they only sell generic stuff from China. But really there's one kind which has PATA+SATA to USB and it works great.

Go to google images and type "USB to SATA/IDE adapter" and there will be a lot of results. Some kits even come with a power supply for the drive with them.

I say that, because these devices are all based on some sort of generic chip from just one manufacturer and them all will behave the same.

The one I have I can even use SMART monitoring tools with it. pretty neat as I can even check the health of the harddrive without need to open the PC and plug it directly to a motherboard bound SATA or PATA port.

Being Fire/Water type is kinda like being that kid who always claimed he was wearing special armor or had super powers no matter what game you were playing. No one liked that kid and he is probably still a little booger-eater.

Yeah it sounds like the ones I have, but they won't do smart, I'll have to look around more. What controller chip is on yours? I may be able to research that way.

edit: I was going to get a PATA drive bay as well, but the only one I could still find at the time sold out.

If they fix computers regularly it won't be something they don't see all the time

Mine identifies itself as "VID_152d&PID_2338"...

To it, I connected everything ranging from PATA laptop harddrives to SATA ODD drives and it worked outright everywhere I tried. Even on a Nintendo Wii to work as SATA DVD ROM drive.

Hmm, looks like it may be using the intel 82371sb controller, I'll have to research more.
