mostly words of encouragement. people post something about being hopeless and depressed or "*** the world" type of thing and I try to show them a brighter side. I'm told to *** off and stop invading their privacy. this has happened several times now from several people who I thought were friends...

Maybe it's more because commenting stuff in ways people dislike (even if it's honest and trying to add to their post) might create animosity.
Most people just click thumbs up and leave it be for laziness sake or to not run on risk of generating any animosity ?
Well I totally dislike things like Facebook. That's not for me. ;)

I have a raccoon family burrowing underneath by porch. Counted 5 so far. My dog thinks he gets brownie points for discovering them, he is confused about his role. He is supposed to prevent them. Currently deliberating how to kill them, animal control won't come out unless they are dead.

Or you could, you know, keep your pet's vaccinations up to date. :/
Municipalities and the ASPCA give free vaccinations for people who can't afford regular trips to the vet, too.

Humane traps or call local animal control and they'll set them.

and the written word is the worst because the reader can impart any emotion they want onto your statement regardless of your intentions.
in the real world I bounce all of my written correspondence off of one of the administrative assistants so they can catch anything that I overlooked.
