Depends on what they made themselves out to be.

If they claim that they are some super scientist who's going to cure cancer, I wouldn't care less if it turns out they aren't.

If they claim to be somebody who you might be very interested in, and the opposite sex, and you go see them for the first time thinking that way? Personally wouldn't care less, but I can see how people might be mad about it.
