I often wonder how different things would be if Nintendo didn't piss off Square resulting in their move to Sony for the main stay FF series. Wasn't it technical limitations like Nintendo choosing not to move to CD or something?

Quote: The switch was due to a dispute with Nintendo over its use of faster but more expensive cartridges, as opposed to the slower and cheaper, but much higher capacity Compact Discs used on rival systems. Final Fantasy VII introduced 3D graphics with fully pre-rendered backgrounds. It was because of this switch to 3D that a CD-ROM format was chosen over a cartridge format. The switch also led to increased production costs and a greater subdivision of the creative staff for Final Fantasy VII and subsequent 3D titles in the series. which... might of meant that XI would of been a story game instead <.< wow I wonder what Final Fantasy would be like without MMOs
Probably dead / sold off cause Enix ;< *sniff* FFX-3 and 4
Ugh, I kinda forgot X-2 was even a thing.
You're welcome
I hope 16 goes back to their roots. I want another medieval Final Fantasy
Well, since 15 is already planned for like 3-4 games, we won't be seeing 16 until 2023....
and it sure as heck won't be a medieval game, SE is all about that anime attraction and heavy metal music for boss fights now. With music that stands out and is memorable because of easily hummable melodies

Well we haven't seen all of it yet, I'll judge it once I get to play it. Might be awesome, might be ***. They also said that countries outside of Lucis have regressed due to not having a crystal so there might be some medieval looking areas because they simply don't have the technology to live differently anymore. Just listen to this godawful mess

I'll say that I was about 60% pleased, 20% confused, and 20% disapointed but only because it might be related to confusion, and my disappointment might be incorrect. I'll just say that I'm NOT okay with when your character's hp drops to zero you don't KO.
It's like you have 2 HP bars, and the 2nd one is for running away while you still can. Idk what penalties you have during it at all, but yea. I don't like that we don't fail if our HP drops to zero anymore. It just changes too much for my tastes. Those 40 minutes were spent in one area though, the worlds in Final Fantasy games usually have quite varied regions.

Which is why I'm waiting to judge it until I see more of it. There might be some very cool looking regions that differ greatly from the technologically advanced Lucis. Or there may not because SE.
I did like that the passive enemies are like super difficult though. It only makes sense. If they have to survive out there against everything they need to be strong.
I'm just a bit sad that I haven't enjoyed a new FF game since 2006 >.>
While I greatly enjoyed the music in 12 when I played it it wasn't all that memorable after I stopped, unlike previous FFs. I have difficulty remembering the melodies aside from a few tracks (like the Estersand) but at least the music did have a certain feel to it if that makes sense. You can tell it's music from 12/Ivalice and not another game.
One of the things I really enjoyed was the voice acting of the Judges. Very impressive.

Yea I'll agree with the melody issue, Final Fantasy's strength use to be in the simplistic memorable powerful music, now it's complicated with layers overlapping each other, trying to complicate things too much by adding lyrics, bringing in different genres of music like heavy metal for boss fights, something I've disagreed with very much.
